This beautiful and romantic Chateau apartment provides an idyllic base deep in the Norman countryside, but also close to the sea. Although we are selling our wonderful apartment, it is still available to rent. Visit Normandy if you have a particular interest in the D-Day Allied Landings. We are near to all the beaches and museums you care to visit. The aristocratic Chateau d'Aumeville-Lestre is a classic 18th century French Chateau, set in its own parkland, with elegant terraces , a lake , and mature avenues of trees stretching away to each point of the compass. Its peaceful location makes it perfect for a romantic getaway for two (sleeping in a very comfortable antique four poster), but the twin bedded second bedroom( with sea views to St Vaast) also provides further charming accommodation on the top floor ,for friends or children over the age of 14 as this room is two floors upstairs with no bathroom. This bedroom is accessed via the main chateau staircase immediately outside the apartment door and those using it share the bathroom in the apartment itself . The apartment has central heating and a log fire in the spacious salon, free internet access ,telephone, NetFlix, satellite TV, (UK and French), DVD and CD players. The bathroom has a rolltop bath ,a separate shower, and the kitchen has an American style fridge freezer , modern oven and hob , dishwasher ,microwave etc . The bathroom has a new washing machine, and you can dry damp thing on hangers in the bathroom which is warm and well-ventilated. The apartment is the personal holiday home of a retired lawyer and his wife , and is full of antique furniture ,original works of art , with hundreds of books, DVDs, and CDs on the shelves and in the cupboards ;and you will be able to access Netflix too. Candles and a generous supply of logs are normally provided, particularly for Christmas : the apartment is as warm in winter as it is cool in summer. You can eat outside on the terrace on sunny days: on cooler days you may choose to eat either in the kitchen or dine at the octagonal marble topped dining table in the salon, on Limoges porcelain .There are comfortable canvas deck chairs ,for day dreaming or reading in the upper gardens, beneath the canopy of trees. This wonderful place. however , is not a Hilton or a Holiday Inn. We do not dust the six chandeliers weekly and it may occasionally be possible to spot the odd bit of peeling paint if you look very carefully. Our French cleaners work hard to make the apartment clean and comfortable, we have beautifully laundered vintage French linens for example, but you must be prepared for the idiosyncratic gently faded charm of a unique historic building and enjoy the experience. The apartment is our much loved and well maintained vacation home and is well equipped for our HomeAway (and other sites), guests, but you should expect to find our kitchen equipment alongside the culinary utensils and crockery provided for you. The apartment is furnished by us as our home, and as the site "HOMEAWAY" is duly named, but with your comfort and enjoyment very much in our minds. The apartment is 5 minutes drive from the small seaside resort of Quineville ,which has shops selling everything you might reasonably need ,plus a couple of bar-restaurants (including the Hotel de la Plage for your morning coffee and croissants prior to a walk on the beach. There is also horse riding, golf, tennis ,sailing and water sports at Quineville ;plus an excellent boulangerie/ patisserie.A ten minute drive brings you to the pretty fishing village of St Vaast with its wonderful Saturday market and a string of excellent seafood restaurants. Mont St Michel is 90 mins away ,Cherbourg is 35 minutes ,and Utah Beach and other D-Day beaches & museums are just 20 minutes away.
