Surrounded by vast expanses of land, lush meadows and fields, the small town of Westerholt in East Friesland is close to the North Sea and is an ideal place to explore the area and relax from the stresses of everyday life. For example, the Eternal Sea, just five kilometers away, one of the largest raised moor lakes in Germany. Here you can observe many animals, marvel at the uniqueness of the landscape on a plank hiking trail or enjoy freshly baked cakes in the cozy café. Activities nearby: Westerholt is a municipality and at the same time the administrative center of the combined municipality of Holtriem in the district of Wittmund. With its 2500 inhabitants, it is the largest community in Holtriem. A sight worth seeing is the church built in 1250 with its medieval paintings on the south wall. Or use the dense bicycle path network with connections to the coast or the Holtriem hiking trail, which connects all the towns in the joint municipality. You are also close to the coastal baths in Dornumersiel, Neuharlingersiel and Bensersiel. Dornumersiel awaits you with a beach and a seawater swimming pool, in Neuharlingersiel you can visit the historic fishing port with an active shrimp cutter fleet and take a few fresh shrimp with you. For active people and families, a trip to Bensersiel to the North Sea Therme Sonneninsel with a sauna landscape and wellness offers is worthwhile. The place also offers a wide range of sports on the beach.
