Please see below for some of our tips for things to do in the area: Trentham and Surrounds: Trentham is a beautiful town that was occupied by the Dja Dja Wurrung until gold prospectors moved into the area in the 1850’s followed soon after by loggers. The town is surrounded by the Wombat State Forest and close to Kyneton, Tylden and Daylesford. If you have a few days in the area we recommend the following: To Do: Domino Rail Trail Easy 6k walk from Trentham to Lyonville along the former railway line. Start at the Trentham Railway Station (now Visitor Information Centre) and continue to Lyonville where you may wish to visit Radio Springs Hotel for a beer or bite to eat before returning home. Otherwise take two cars. Trentham Falls Famous for being one of the longest single drop waterfalls in Victoria and plunging 32 metres down basalt rock formations, the falls is especially spectacular in winter after heavy rains. In summer it becomes a place where locals swim but it Is technically not allowed and the paths down are dangerous. Daylesford Spa Country Railways and Daylesford Catch the steam train that leaves on Sunday’s from Bullarto to Daylesford and visit the Daylesford Sunday market Lyonville Mineral Springs For the best spring water in the region head to Lyonville Mineral Springs and enjoy nice walks in the surrounding Wombat Forest. Goldfields Track Chocolate Mill to Vaughan Springs (21k) – this relatively flat walk crosses into the northern part of the dividing range and leads to Vaughan Springs, near Castlemaine. Spring Hill Nursery and Garden Centre Located in Tylden, the nursery has been established for over 20 years and offers an extensive cool climate garden nursery on over two acres of land. There is a Garden walk, cafe and Garden Shop. St Earth The Garden of St Earth (The Diggers Club) is a secluded getaway not far from Trentham in Blackwood. Each season has something to offer the visitor, including carpets of daffodils in spring, long flowering flower borders in summer and magnificent autumn garden colour. Stroll around the Digger Garden shop or relax over coffee in the cafe and stay for lunch, morning or afternoon tea. Wellness: Indriya Ayurveda Owner Catherine Laurent, a “self-care activist” offers a range of Ayervedic and holistic treatments as well as her own range of organic skin care. The Green Store Casey, the owner also offers massage and wellness treatments from her consulting rooms out the back of her shop. Her massage treatments are highly recommended but bookings are essential. Wining & Dining: Du Fermier Owned and run by chef Annie Smithers. You will need to book in advance for lunch or dinner as this is Trentham’s premier dining destination. Please note the wait list can be up to six months but they do have a cancellation list. Dele A catering business and food store owned and run by chef Adele Stevens. Pre-order meals in advance or visit the High Street store for a selection. Open 12 – 7pm Monday to Friday and 2 – 6pm Saturday. Trentham General A cute and warm-hearted local café on High Street with seasonal specials and a selection of local wines. Great breakfast and lunch menu. Red Beard Bakery This bakery and café is a local institution. Hours have been reduced recently and it is mostly take away but the bread and pastries are delicious and they run workshops occasionally. Cosmopolitan Hotel Trentham’s most celebrated pub that burned down over twenty years ago and has been lovingly restored. It has a eat in or takeaway menu and an excellent beer garden. Radio Springs, Lyonville More than a pub in the centre of the universe”, Radio Springs is a true destination. It is possible to walk there for lunch and return otherwise it is a fifteen-minute car trip from Trentham. Passing Clouds Winery A favourite winery to visit with an excellent cellar door that is open seven days a week. Their dining room is open for lunch only from Thursdays to Monday.
