The Haven
The Haven is an Antebellum home in walking distance of YMCA The Columbus Soccer fields, River Walk, Trotter Convention Center downtown restaurants and shopping. It is an old home with decor dating to The United States Civil War. The Haven has a special way of making everyone feel at home. From its beginning as a black smith shop to the loving family who restored it in the 70’s it offers a great deal of comfort and character. Rich in history you will find that it has meant a lot to many who have found refuge within its walls. There are 3 out buildings on the property you may access. #The Wheel House- smallest of the 3. You will recognize it’s arch windows. Find the light under the carport it looks nice lit up at night. #The green storage building in the back yard. It’s not very tidy but you are welcome to take a peak. #Connected to the carport is an old “work shop” We use as storage now and you may too. Columbus hosts an annual spring pilgrimage, people from all over the world visit Columbus to tour our beautiful Antebellum homes. The Haven is one of the tour favorites because of its uniquely detailed story. If interested, available most days upon request for short 1 room glance at the oldest part of the home or answer questions on the History of The Haven. It has earned it’s name: The Haven. It harbors fun secrets and includes history about the whole town of Columbus dating back to 1843. How many doors can you find? Columbus is a quaint charming southern town. During the day, downtown offers busy restaurants, small southern shops, birthplace of Tennessee Williams, The Rosenwig Art Center, a spa, and Zachary’s a fun diner. All attractions are a short walk up the hill from The Haven. Columbus is home to Mississippi University for Women and a short 5 minute drive from The Haven Hail State! The Haven is 25 minutes away from Starkville home of the MSU bulldogs. Roll Tide! It is a 45 minute drive to Tuscaloosa Alabama. We would like to assure families with children, it’s OK! Considering the homes age and antiques many question its suitability for children. We would like to assure you this home and it’s contents are tough. In 175 years it has raised many kids and currently hosts parties sometimes crawling with kids. There is nothing in the home that isn’t specifically there for our guests. We understand accidents happen and it would not be there if we couldn’t live without it so under reasonable respect and consideration please relax and enjoy the space. It’s set up for you with kids in mind.
