Driftwood Suite

Restful, view, apartment on Anderson Island. Far away from the hustle of the city, but not so far away. Ride a ferry from Steilacoom WA, in South Puget Sound, to arrive at this unique island get-a-way. This space is perfect for a couple getaway, or a family looking for an opportunity to be away from the city. An upstairs space with 360 degree views of Sound, ferry, vineyard, woods, and garden. The breakfast bar gives the feel of surveying the scenery. Maybe an eagle will soar by looking for his morning meal. In the evening cozy up on the wraparound sectional under the windows. A supply of DVD's lends itself to more relaxation. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and one with two twin beds. There is one bathroom. There is 700 sq.ft. of living space. Guests arrive on the property and park near the detached garage. Signs direct you to the walkway to Driftwood Suite private entrance at the back of the building. This apartment guest suite is above our detached garage with a private entrance. The 10 acre property includes a nice 1/4 mile loop walk thru the woods. Depending on the season, you may help with planting, weeding, or harvesting from our garden, orchard, or vineyard. A 10 minute walk thru the yard and down the road brings you to the saltwater beach with views of the ferry, Mt. Rainier, and the Cascade mountains. (These views are also seen from the apartment windows.) I am usually available to help you access your guest space and to answer any questions. The lockbox combination will be revealed on the day of your arrival to access the key, if I am unavailable. Opportunities abound for getting out into the view. A short walk brings you to the beach, where you can amass your own collection of driftwood, beachglass, agates, and shells. The island Parks Department has developed many public walking paths. In the summer, the famous Island Swimming Hole (Lowell Johnson Park) is just a short 1/4 mile down the road. Bring your bicycles, kayaks, and walking shoes for year round activity. The island is accessible with public transportation, or by private vehicle. Arrival to the island is by ferry, from the Steilacoom Ferry Terminal. Buy your tickets before you board at the building on the dock. Anderson Island now has a free app available for your smart phone. In the App Store search for Anderson Island Assistant. This app has the ferry times, the tides, the local events, the open times of the store and cafe, and can be very helpful to your stay on the island. This app also has the location of the ferry to let you know if it is running on time, and live camera shots of the ferry waiting lanes. Pierce County also offers an app for purchasing your ferry ticket online. This is also a very convenient way to save time when you are rushing to the ferry terminal for the 'next' boat. :) Search the app store for Pierce County Ferry Tickets. The kitchen is equipped with refrigerator, microwave, 2 burner hot plate, rice cooker, griddle, toaster oven, coffeepot, coffee grinder, waffle iron and electric tea kettle. There is a countertop convection oven. A Weber Grill is available upon request. There is a starter supply of coffee, tea, sugar, and creamer for your convenience. The pantry has some basic items to give you a jumpstart on your meal preparation. The island boasts a cafe, a restaurant, and a general store. There is wifi available in the suite, however it is 'island speed' of 10 mbytes, and shared with the main house. Sometimes it works well for streaming, and other times not as well.
