Events Square is home to the National Maritime Museum which hosts a busy calendar of events throughout the year, from the famous Sea Shanty Week in June to the Oyster Festival in October. With Christmas markets and events throughout the festive season, Falmouth is a great all year round destination. Pendennis and St Mawes castles are perched on the headland and face each other overlooking the wide estuary. Both castles were built by Henry VIII to protect the precious waterways and are now managed by English Heritage and are open to the public. Take one of the many small ferry services to St Mawes, Flushing, the stunning Helford River and creeks, or there is the popular sea safari to watch dolphins, basking sharks, seals and an abundance of wildlife that frequent the coastline. The rugged north coast is within easy reach and is popular with surfers, or stroll around one of the many beautiful, sub-tropical gardens in the area, including nearby Trebah, Glendurgan and Telissike.
