Beautifully restored big red-brick bungalow takes you back in time when men and women kept watch over the Ohio River’s Lock and Dam 51. The Golconda Lockmaster Homes are perfect for riverside relaxation or a homebase to take in the natural wonders and adventures waiting for you in southern Illinois. Houses can accommodate couples or large groups and overlook the scenic Ohio River. This spacious, beautifully restored three bedroom homes feature period furnishings from the 20th century and can easily accommodate 8 people. The large Master bedroom features a king-sized bed. Bedroom #2 features a queen-sized bed. Bedroom #3 is equipped with two, twin-sized beds. There is also a pull-out couch in the living room. All items needed to prepare and eat your meal in comfort are provided in the home's fully equipped kitchen. Cable TV is also provided to watch but who needs it when you have the beautiful, relaxing view of the scenic Ohio river from the expansive screened-in porch facing the river. Guests have full access to the entire first and second floor. You may also enjoy the large screened in front porch with patio furniture. Guests are left to enjoy their stay on their own, however in an emergency caretakers are just a few minutes away. Downtown Golconda and the Lock & Dam #51 site are on the National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy many of the preserved structures and their history with a narrated audio tour, walk the banks of the Ohio River, or visit one of the numerous natural sites or hiking trails in the surrounding Shawnee National Forest. Driving around Golconda is very easy. We don't even have a single traffic light! There is plenty of street-side parking available downtown and our community is very pedestrian friendly.
