There are a plethora of footpaths from the doorstep and the Cuckoo Trail provides 19 miles of walkways and lanes that follow the old Cuckoo Line Railway from Heathfield to Eastbourne. If you’ve left your bikes at home it’s possible to hire bikes and if you’re lucky you’ll also hear the cuckoo in spring! The Wealden area also attracts quality wine producers including Hidden Spring at Horam, Rathfinney at Alfriston and The English Wine Centre at Berwick, book a tour in advance to avoid disappointment. Stroll around the colourful gardens at Herstmonceux Castle and the stunning moated Michelham Priory. Visit the Trug Shop and take home a beautiful, traditional Sussex trug gardening basket. Trout fishing is available in the beautiful surroundings of Brick Farm Lakes. Explore the coast at Eastbourne, a half hour drive away and see the iconic Beachy Head or take a boat trip.
