You’ll love my place because of privacy, comfort, first floor convenient access (no stairs), no clutter, the ambiance, the neighborhood, free on-street parking and your host (conveniently living in a separate apartment on the second floor). My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets). My apartment is perfect for 2 people but can accommodate 4-5 (however rooms are small and it is best for smaller groups). I use my space as a guest apartment for my family and friends coming to visit me and Chicago. But my family has a long way to Chicago (from Poland) so they don't visit me that often. That is why in 2017 I decided to become an Airbnb host. Since I started this adventure I learned that I love to be an airbnb host. The apartment is located on the 1st floor, so it has an easy access from the front (main street) as well as it has a secondary door at the back (to the backyard and the alley). My apartment has 1 bedroom with one queen bed. In addition there is a den/walk-in closet with a twin bed (Murphy Bed) and a door to make this room private (see pictures for details). There is also a red sofa in the Living Room which can be unfolded and converted into a full size bed (for one/two people). Second convertible gry sofa is in the dining room (it can be unfolded and converted into a twin size bed (for one person). And another blue sofa-twin bed is in the back (behind the Kitchen). If there is a 4/5th person in the group than I recommend to use my queen size inflatable airbed/mattress (which is tucked away in the Living Room closet during the day- see pictures). I love animals, so this apartment is dog/cat friendly. There is even a gate between kitchen and dining room which could be used to keep your dog away from the rest of the apartment if needed. Again please note that rooms in my apartment (built in 1906) are small and if you choose to come in a larger group I don't mind it as long as you are ok with it and you are ok to share one bathroom (see pictures for more details). Our 2-flat is tastefully decorated and has everything you need for your visit to Chicago. We live upstairs in a separate unit and are available to help with questions about restaurants, the area, and getting around Chicago. Guests will have full privacy in their unit. They will have the freedom to come and go as they please. Guests also will have access to the shared deck for lounging and relaxing. In addition: – wireless internet is always available – we provide coffee/tea/creamer – street parking is safe, permit/fee free and easy – laundry room at the back of the apartment has a laundry machine & a dryer (which you can use for free) as well as an iron and an ironing board – the kitchen is full size and stocked with all the tools needed for cooking – sheets and towels are provided – basic toiletries and hair dryer provided – the apartment has a television; actually 2 of them : 1. smart TV in the bedroom and 2. another older version TV in the living room with basic channels -at least 20 of them - but there is a DVD player attached to it so you can enjoy watching movies on them (which you can find in the TV armoire drawer); there is also an HDMI cable attached to it so you can connect the screen with your computer. Always remember not to hesitate to contact me if you need anything during your stay at our apartment. We enjoy meeting our guests and welcome as little or much interaction as you like. My place is close to: - Jefferson Park Transit Center - Copernicus Center; - Ed Paschke Art Center; and many restaurants. Jefferson Park is a neighborhood ideally situated to the north and west of downtown (15 min), with easy access to the expressway and O'Hare Blue LIne train. It is a predominantly middle-class neighborhood of people coming from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Like many neighborhoods on the Northwest Side of Chicago the neighborhood has a heavy Polish-American presence, and is home to the Copernicus Foundation, the Polish parish of St. Constance, as well as a host of other Polish-American organizations, institutions and businesses. Jefferson Park is also known for having a very high number of resident city and county workers. Jeff Park is the home of the historic former Gateway Theatre Movie Palace that is now only part of the Copernicus Center. The Copernicus Center & former Gateway Theatre still serve the community today as a performing arts center, hosting numerous music concerts, theatrical performances, classes, seminars, community meetings, and cultural events throughout the year. Our neighborhood is also home to the award-winning Gift Theatre Company. Our neighborhood holds two large festivals annually: Jeff Fest in June, and Taste of Polonia over Labor Day weekend. The Taste of Polonia has brought some of the nation's most prominent political figures to Jefferson Park to woo the support of Chicago's Polish community. President George H.W. Bush hosted the festival in 1992 and in 2000, future Vice-President Dick Cheney as well as Tipper Gore, and Hadassah Lieberman made an appearance. Vice-President Cheney's presence was particularly notorious with coverage in the New York Times of his lively antics which included dancing the polka, serving attendees kielbasa with stuffed cabbage and addressing a cheering crowd by shouting the Polish phrase Sto Lat. President Barack Obama delivered his speech about Immigration here at the Copernicus Center in 2014. Our home is just 7 minute walk to Metra station (0.3 m) and 9 minute walk (0.4 m) to the Blue Line, which runs between O'Hare and the Loop, where you can walk to the main tourist attractions such as Millennium Park, the Magnificent Mile and the Museum campus. Jefferson Park has long been one of Chicago's transportation hubs, earning the neighborhood the nickname as "The Gateway to Chicago". The neighborhood is served by a Blue Line station (L) as well as The Union Pacific / Northwest Line (Amtrak) and many buses. One of the best restaurants in the neighborhood we believe are: 1. Smakosz (Homey destination for Polish standards such as dumplings & kielbasa, plus a full bar & banquet room). 5619 W Lawrence Ave, Chicago, IL 60630 2. Amitabul (I believe the best in Chicago restaurant for vegans/vegetarians/pescaterians) 6207 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646 3. Gale Street Inn (Casual spot with a pub vibe serving up craft brews, signature ribs & other American fare) N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60630 4. Gorilla Sushi Bar 4945 N Milwaukee Ave #2, Chicago, IL 60630 5. Royal Sushi (sushi buffet - all you can eat) 7258 W Foster Ave, Chicago, IL 6. Legno Chicago (Rustic-chic gastropub with modern Italian fare, wood-fired pizza & drinks, plus frequent live music.) 4250 N Central Ave, Chicago, IL 60634 7. Joe's Pizza (Longtime pizza joint offering stuffed & thin-crust pies, plus Italian eats for delivery or dine-in.) 5747 W Higgins Ave, Chicago, IL 60630 We are very pet friendly. There is no dog on the premises. But occasionally we babysit my sister's very friendly dog which might be running around on our backyard (never on the loose at the front door/yard). If you come with your dog(s) and you let them loose at our backyard please make sure you clean after them. We don't let our dog to use our backyard as a dumping/dropping area. And we hope you will respect our wish. Also, I checked that our apartment is wheelchair accessible, however it does not comply with all ADA requirements. First of all there is no ramp at the front or back entry, but since it is located on the ground floor and there is only one step at threshold I think it might be consider as a wheelchair accessible (with a little help). Also there is no 5' clearance at the bedside in the bedroom, (our bedroom is not that large) but with a little help it is easily accessible by wheelchair person. Also the clearance at the door to the restroom is not large enough to be wheelchair accessible. For your reference and more details see pictures. Note: For convenience and security of the house I installed Ring video doorbell at the front door.
