An Adirondack experience on Lake Champlain Awaits.
Located in the beautiful and historic hamlet of Essex, NY, the "EDGE" is a lovely four bedroom house sitting as close to Lake Champlain as one can get. At the edge of the water, this Adirondack retreat has a large deck and views of the lake from almost every room. Scenic country side, winding roads, and wooded trails perfect for taking in nature. Enjoy hiking, biking, walking, or just sit lakeside and relax. At the Edge, life is easy. A selection of 4 bikes are available for you to cruise into town or for a longer adventure, enjoy a ride through the local rolling hills. Lake access for swimming is via the Essex town beach, a short 15 minute walk away (0.6 miles). Want to get out on the lake, take our canoe and launch it at the town beach. For those fun evenings fire side or unfortunate rainy days, you'll find an array of board games and books to enjoy. We are right on the lake and we have lots of trees around the property- so you will see harmless bugs and small spiders that like to make their webs on the roof of our covered deck and windows. They are more prevalent in the late summer and fall. We rarely see mosquitoes and black flies. (I have not encountered any tin the 4 years we have owned the house. We do our very best to get rid of them between guests and we power wash the outside throughout the summer and fall. We are totally against any type of chemical spraying. It is harmful to you and the environment. Just a short 30 minute ferry ride away, we live in Charlotte, Vermont and are available for any questions or concerns you may have during your stay. Essex, NY is considered one the most preserved historical hamlets in the United States. Many beautiful historic homes can be found while walking through town. Our favorite coffee shop, the "Pink Pig" has some of the best cold brewed coffee. Two of our favorite restaurants, the "Essex Inn" and "Chez Lin and Rays” are in town and the third, "Turtle Island Cafe" is a short 5 mile drive into the town of Willsboro. Great hiking awaits close by and in the Adirondack Park, as well as enjoyable swimming and fishing in the Bouquet River. The CAT (Champlain area trails) have walks, hikes, biking, xc skiing for all ages and levels. While at the Edge you'll find plenty of brochures and booklets to help plan your days. For those looking to explore the surrounding area, the Edge is located an hour ride from Lake Placid and half an hour ferry ride to Vermont. From the ferry in Vermont-- you can enjoy Shelburne Farms and/or Museum just 15 minutes away . Just a 30 minute drive is Burlington where you can enjoy shopping, great restaurants and great activities that a small college town has to offer. Split Rock ( about a 10 min drive south ) has many trails to walk with views from several vantage points. While relaxing on the deck with a drink watching the water fowl, boats, and ever changing views of the Green Mountains, you will find yourself leaving your care and worries behind. We are working on lake access from our house but right now there is none. We have air conditioning in two upstairs bedrooms and one in living room and a large ceiling fan in master bedroom and living room. Portable fans throughout the the house. 6 person limit for our house. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: It is essential that nothing but our toilet paper goes in the toilet. We have a septic tank and there could be costly repairs if fusible wipes, tissues or certain toilet paper go into the tank. Thank you
