Saint Pierre sur Erve, as the name suggests, is situated at the side of the river Erve. It is a pretty and tranquil village, designated one of the ‘petites cités de caractère’. Located in the heart of the Erve Valley, classified as a Natura 2000 Zone, the village has connections as far back as the Romans. The Romanesque church has five status protected as historic monuments and the old pedestrian bridge, believed to have been constructed in the eighteenth century, still spans the river. The village of Saint Pierre sur Erve is an excellent starting point for anyone that loves to walk, ride a bicycle or motorbike, paint, or to just discover the rich history of the area. Positioned between the cities of Laval and Le Mans, each with their own selection of historic buildings, shops and restaurants, the village offers a quiet retreat from a busy day of sightseeing. The village of Saulges with its prehistoric caves is only a six-minute drive and Sainte Suzanne, another ‘Petites cités de caractère’ with its 14th- and 15th-century ramparts, is just twenty minutes away. The old town of Le Mans (Cite Plantagenet) is only forty-five minutes with many bars and restaurants. During the summer the spectacular laser show called ‘Nuit des chimeres’ lights up many of the buildings including the famous cathedral Saint Julian. The famous racetrack of Le Mans is fifty minutes away with its museum dedicated to the history of the Le Mans 24 hour race. If a typical French market is what you seek, then look no further than Evron on a Thursday morning, a 15-minute drive will have you in the heart of the small town which is where you will also find the impressive Basilica of Our Lady of the Thorn, built in the 10th-14th centuries. If it’s swimming, crazy golf, ice creams, pedalos, horse riding, forest walks or cycling is what you want, or just sand between your toes, then the beach at the lake in Sille le Guillaume in just Thirty minutes away. The region has something for everyone and will bring you back time and time again because there will always be something new to discover.
