Our magical guesthouse is the perfect home base for your West Texas adventure or weekend retreat. From its location on the western edge of Marathon, mountain views create the perfect backdrop for spectacular nightly sunsets. Practice yoga or savor a glass of wine on the expansive deck, star gaze beside the backyard fire pit or enjoy a long soak in the antique clawfoot tub. Just 2 blocks from the historic Gage Hotel and walking distance to shops, restaurants & galleries. Come be our guest! Experience the restorative energy of this charming West Texas retreat with a perfect view of Iron Mountain and the Glass Mountains range, plus all the comforts of home - full bath and kitchen, two bedrooms, plus space for living and dining indoors and out. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, pots and pans, silverware, cooking utensils, drip coffee maker, coffee bean grinder, microwave, electric stove, refrigerator, garbage disposal, washer/dryer. The bathroom has towels and toiletries. Make yourself at home! Enjoy all the peaceful energy inside, or outside on the deck or under the stars. There's plenty of parking just outside the gate. Unfortunately, we don't get to live in Marathon full time, (yet!) so we have some really special locals who stand in as super hosts! Tom and Klemie will be sure to leave the light on for you and adjust the heating/cooling so it's comfortable when you arrive. The front door has a combo lock, so you're free to arrive on your schedule! Third Street & Avenue B sits off by itself but it's close to everything! You can walk to the French Co. Grocer, the Gage Hotel, restaurants and galleries. If friends are staying at other places around town, you'll only be a few minutes walk away. Los Muertos Mexican restaurant is just two blocks away, right around the corner from Avenue B on Highway 90. Third Street is aka Church Street because St. Mary's Catholic Church, the former Methodist church and the Baptist Church are located all in a row to the east. Walking is the new driving in Marathon, but the remote location means you might want a car to get here! Big Bend National Park is just 45 minutes down US Highway 385. Alpine is just 30 miles to the west. And Marfa a little further west. The home was built in the 1920s, when Marathon was still the Wild West, and has undergone some interesting renovations. In the living room, you'll see what remains of a front porch landing. It's charming, yet requires that guests be able to step UP from the living room to access the master bedroom or step UP into the dining room to access the second bedroom, kitchen and bath. Outside, there are two steps at each entrance into the house as well. It's safe to say we are not wheelchair friendly. We're sure the kitchen/bathroom addition to the back of the home was the most appreciated! A word of caution for our taller friends: The doorway between the dining room and kitchen is a little on the low side.
