Ammonite Cottage - cosy riverside home, character & original period features
Full of character, charm and original period features, Ammonite Cottage offers a peaceful and homely atmosphere on the southern edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Located in a sleepy residential village just a few steps away from the trout-filled River Dove and a thunderous weir. Ammonite is a popular self-catering cottage with many famous local attractions only a short drive, walk or cycle ride away. The ground floor offers spacious accommodation with a cosy and comfortable sitting room leading open-plan to a kitchen/dining room illuminated by natural sunlight. Winter nights are warmed with a roaring log fire in an original Yorkshire range fireplace. The flower-filled garden is a delight with a paved sunken patio perfect for evening barbecues. A secluded lawn provides plenty of safe space for kids or pets, whilst at the garden’s edge. The garden looks out across a field to the weir of the River Dove whilst a meandering stream flows to the watermill next door. A spacious fully-fitted kitchen/dining room is often bathed in magnificent natural light from two large velux windows set into the sloping roof. Equipment includes fitted cooker/hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave. The lounge/sitting room has an original Yorkshire-range fireplace, one of only a handful remaining in the county, providing a grand focal point to a bright and airy beamed room. TV, DVD player, CD player, satellite TV, Wi-Fi internet access. At the rear of the cottage, French doors open out from the kitchen onto a secluded walled patio which is colourfully paved in Indian stone. Bathed in sunlight for much of the day, the patio is a perfect spot for early evening BBQs overlooking the enclosed stone walled garden and fruit trees. At the end of the garden there is a viewpoint, carefully positioned overlooking the Mill Race, a bubbling stream which flows from the River Dove and its cascading weir – both only a 100 metres or so from the cottage. This is a view to linger over – with a sun downer in one hand, grab your binoculars in the other and search for kingfishers, ducks, moor hen and the resident farm chickens across the stream! At the front of the cottage parking is available along the quiet village through road.
