Some of the pubs overlook the picturesque Ullswater lake where you can try your hand at some exhilarating outdoor pursuits, or perhaps take a soothing cruise on one of the Ullswater Steamers. The area is popular with mountain walkers as there are seemingly endless opportunities nearby, above the village sits the Greenside Mine, this 18th century lead mine is the reason for the maintaining of the village's economy.
