Stone Cabin - Liberty Schoolhouse
Part of the Olentangy River Scenic corridor, the Stone Cabin is minutes from major roads and attractions. Built in 1826 from river stone it began as an one room schoolhouse. Fully renovated, it retains its rustic charm, with the comforts of home. Situated in the Olentangy Scenic River corridor the property is directly across from the Bieber Mill Ruins along the river to the east. Adjacent to the west and the south of the property is the Seymour Woods Nature Preserve. A no hunting Ohio Department of Natural resources protected area. The road is very quiet, often with more bike riders passing than cars. The space is set up for a romantic retreat or for entertaining a small group of friends. Being a ~200 year old stone building it is not well set up for children or people with mobility issues. Please ask if you have any doubts. There is a large 1 acre fenced yard. The Bieber Mill ruins area is supposed to be off limits (you risk a ticket from the ranger if you explore around it). I'm working on getting a permit for guests to explore around it. There is a gate immediately in front of the cabin. You are welcome to open it (swings out toward the road) and park in front of the cabin. Please do not park on the cabin sides. The road also has parking. The Seymour Woods has beautiful walking trails located at the top of the hill on Winter Rd. The woods are immediately behind the cabin, but that area has some brambles. The best paths are up Winter Rd. We live about 25 minutes from the property. We are available for any emergencies, but you won't likely see us around. We are available by phone should any issues arise. This is a great place for walking or biking. To the north about 1/8th of a mile along the road is a small stream with a small waterfall that runs into the river. A short walk up the hill on Winter Rd. is the entrance to Seymour Woods Nature Preserve. The trail head is at the top of the hill on the left a little less than .5 miles from the cabin. There is a Krogers, restaurants, and shopping center ~3.5 miles away. The spiral stairs to the loft are fairly narrow and can be difficult to maneuver if you have any mobility issues. Deer are very active during the dawn and dusk hours. Keep an eye out if you are driving during this time.
