Rustic luxury in the Australian rainforest

Before Booking Please Note: There is no 240v power in Reindeer Lodge, we use solar power which is 12v, so you will not be able to use or charge your electrical devices. There are no shops to purchase food near Reindeer Lodge, so you will need to bring everything with you that you need for your stay. We do not provide towels, sheets, duvet (quilt) covers or pillow cases, so you will need to bring your own. This is due to not having 240v power for washing and drying. The Area: We are located in the old gold prospector's village of Tanjil Bren, population 6. This historical village is only a 2-2 1/2 hours drive east of Melbourne, in the Baw Baw ranges. Tanjil Bren is the closest off mountain accommodation to Mt Baw Baw Ski Resort, which is only 20 minutes drive away. Mt Baw Baw offers great skiing, both downhill, cross country and snow boarding. There is a variety of things to do, including skiing, fishing, bush walking or you may just choose to relax with your family or friends in front of the fire. This is a great place to get away. Reindeer Lodge: Reindeer Lodge was built in 1992 and is in the middle of the forest at the highest point in Tanjil Bren. It has beautiful views overlooking a valley to a mountain and is surrounded by large gum trees. Reindeer Lodge has all the rustic charm of a large A frame Mountain Lodge with old logging and antique memorabilia throughout. Tanjil Bren is still an undiscovered place of fresh air, clean water, and tranquility in the heart of the forest. Here, you can relax in rustic luxury. Reindeer Lodge has solar power for the lights in the cabin, with gas used for the fridge, hot water, gas lights, and cooking. It caters for eight people with one queen bed, one double bed and four single beds in two bunks in the bunk room. Living, dining, and kitchen are in one large open plan room. An internal spiral staircase leads to a hideaway bedroom in the loft. The Lodge is heated with a big slow combustion wood burner, which can be shut down to slow combust all night or sit in front of, stay cosy and watch the beautiful log fire. Firewood is supplied and ready to light upon arrival. Check In & Check Out: Our caretaker Jerry will be available to greet you between 3PM and 6PM, he can introduce you to the cabin and answer any questions you may have. Guests who arrive outside of these hours will have access to a keylock, with a unique code that is sent to you when your booking is confirmed and will be valid for your stay.
