The Porter-York Guest House
Welcome to the guest cottage on the grounds of the historic Porter-York House, circa 1856. Located in the heart of downtown Clarkesville, this cozy escape is nestled between two old-growth poplar trees and is the tiny home you’ve always dreamed of! Relax on a private deck while you savor a warm cup of coffee in the morning or a cocktail on a crisp fall evening. This well-appointed space features a kitchen, full gym and private bathroom.* *Please note bathroom is downstairs. The Porter-York guest house is more appropriately known to us as the "School House". During the week this space is used for homeschooling. Please do not climb the ladder and go into the loft. This is where we keep our personal school belongings. The stairway leading up to the living space has low clearance so please watch your head. We have amazing water pressure but a small hot water tank. Please note that the hot water runs out quickly if the hot water is turned all the way up. Upon arrival you will enter through the Gym. The door to the right of the Gym is the bathroom. The door to the left is the stairway leading to the living space. We have chickens, ducks, and goats. If you are allergic or scared of dogs/pets our home may not be the right fit for you. The Guest House is an animal free space but we have animals on the property. The guest house has a tin roof which amplifies the sound of falling acorns. Please be aware that this home was built in the 90's. Because it is not sealed tight and it sits between two trees, we can sometimes get stink bugs and ladybugs in this space. If you are terrified of bugs this house is not for you! The kitchen has a refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, hotplate for cooking, small toaster oven, toaster, and stir fryer. Please know that this is an efficiency kitchen. We do not have a full size stove or oven in the space. We can provide microwave if you let us know before arrival. You will have access to the entire apartment, including the full gym. We ask that you stay out of the loft. This is where we homeschool and our private belongings are there. We will be available via text during the day and available to answer any questions personally during the afternoon. Our proximity to downtown makes it easy to walk to special events, award-winning restaurants, boutiques, coffee shop, antique stores, yoga studio, spa, salon and an outdoor store to equip you for all your outdoor adventures! A short drive delivers you to breathtaking waterfalls, scenic Lake Rabun and Lake Burton, wineries, hiking trails and so much more! Please note we are not located on the water. The city has great sidewalks to walk to many restaurants and shops downtown.
