Located near Mashobra bazaar, property of writer Khushwant Singh's brother Gurbux Singh is where The Jewel in the Crown was shot. The property has a 3 bedroom heritage palace along with a studio cabin below it and 2 alluring cottages on its right. Though the owner has decided to set aside the palace for their personal use, the cabin and cottages are for guests to experience a homely stay. A makeshift bonfire can also be arranged in the open as you stargaze, watch the city light up the night sky. Attached to an old colonial home dated back to 1879, this is a beautiful homestay surrounded by apple and cherry orchards. With a backdrop of the Deodar forest, the cottages are equipped with a kitchen, hot and cold running water, and all the luxuries of a homestay. Overlooking the Shimla hills, with an uninterrupted view of the setting sun, is the perfect homestay in Mashobra. The place is away from all the noise and the traffic and the bustle, amidst gardens that have many flowers and trees. As you drive up to it, you’ll see a fancy gate on the right, from which you have to enter, park your vehicle and then take a beautiful walk through the apple and cherry blossom trees up to the main area. The cottages on the right of the palaces, with one individual studio cottage on the top of the other, is a sight to die for. Little things here, like the trendy yet vintage wooden flooring the room has, the balcony that has a captivating view of the mountains, and the interior of this tranquil palace scream Himachal and truly make you vibe with the hills and be one with nature. This particular studio cottage on the first top will accommodate 3 guests. (Two adults and one kid) Come and enjoy our Hospitality. Standing tall 7770 ft above sea level, with the weather getting extremely chilly at 6 degrees at night and getting sunny enough at 30 degrees during the day; Mashobra enjoys a bracing climate throughout the year. There isn't much to do in Mashobra except ogle at various bungalows one after another and wishing you could spend the rest of your life there. Try the mushroom pickle at Col Grover outlet on main road, fresh fruit, ice cream and juices at Shivalik Fruit Products run by Mrs. Jain not forgetting to pick up jams, pickles and squashes, especially the strawberry jam. Bandochy, the summer retreat of actress Waheeda Rehman, has the prettiest garden in the area. A drive to Craignano, another picnic spot, is a lovely drive through pine wooded trees. If you head to the Mashobra Forest Sanctuary you will enjoy the breath-taking view of the magnificent mountains and endless pine forests. There are numerous orchards which are laden with fruits in season time. It's a perfect spot for entire family enjoyment. When in Mashobra, stroll over to have a look at pretty old houses, soak in deodar forests and go for long walks or drive.
