Chapel on the Farm at Tamié: Glaces & Cows
Enjoy your stay in our fully renovated 19th century chapel, just a step away from our dairy farm at Col de Tamié and over the hill from the Abbaye de Tamié, where the monks still make their famous cheese. In the winter, enjoy the ski resort La Sambuy (Seythenex), 15 minutes away. Les Saisies and Crest-Voland are 45 minutes away, and some of the largest ski resorts in the world are an hours drive from the house. There is also cross country skiing in Les Combes in Seythenex. In the fall of 2017, the chapel was fully renovated into an all-season vacation home. The bottom floor consists of an open living area complete with a church bench and dining room table as well as a cozy area with a couch next to the woodburning stove. The kitchen is located on the first floor of the steeple - a tight space, but with everything you would need, including an induction stovetop and a convection microwave oven. The floor heating under the tile is a real treat! Upstairs there are two bedrooms, each with a double bed and a velux window with views of the mountains. The bathroom is located on the second floor of the steeple, again a tight space but with a shower, toilet and sink. And above it all, a skylight looking up into the steeple! The chapel cannot be accessed by car. You can park in the village and walk the last 50 meters up the hill on the dirt or snow-covered road. Take a sled to come back down in winter! Upon your arrival and at the time of departure, we will use our quad to transport your baggage and groceries. If you have difficulty with mobility, it is not advised that you stay here (access to chapel and staircase inside). There is a screen and DVD player in the chapel along with DVDs, boardgames and books for both children and adults. The washing machine is located in our house. Please bring us your dirty laundry and we will do a load for you. You can then hang the clothes to dry on the rack in the chapel. The chapel is an independent house. You have complete access to the the house as well as the surrounding garden. You are welcome to visit our dairy farm and fields. Our house is located 50 meters down the hill and the farm is just beyond, so we are never far away. The chapel is yours and we'll give you your space, but we are here to answer questions, make recommendations and help you get the most out of the region and your stay. And of course, if you want to explore the farm, we'll be glad to show you around. With just a handful of houses located at Malapalud at the Col de Tamié, we hope you'll find the tranquility you're looking for! While you're in the area, visit the Abbaye de Tamié monastery located just over the hill, or the new ropes course at the Fort de Tamié, both within walking distance. The Col de Tamié is well known with cyclists, with the Tour de France passing by most recently in 2013 and 2016. Ride from Tamié down to Lake Annecy, where the bicycle path winds around the lake. And of course, there is plenty of hiking to do! In the winter, La Sambuy, Seythenex ski resort is just 15 minutes away, and the largest ski resorts in the world can be reached in within an hour's drive. Cross-country skiing is a 5-minute drive away, at the Foyer de Ski de Fond in Les Combes, Seythenex. Or, just outside your front door, strap on your snowshoes and wander through the snow-covered pastures for a moonlit walk. You'll need a car or bicycle to arrive, there is no public transportation. The nearest train stations are in Albertville and Annecy, and the bus comes to Faverges. Geneva and Lyon are the closest airports. The chapel is not always accessible by car because of snow and mud and you will need to park 50 meters down the hill. When this is the case, we can help you transport your luggage using the quad. As you're not far from a working farm, it's important to remember all that comes along with this. For example, the cows might graze just the other side of the fence or you'll hear us calling them in for milking. Of course, we would love to show you around and explain what's happening at the farm. There is no cell phone service at the house, but you can walk or drive up the mountain for a signal. The internet works well and phone calls can be made this way. For those of you with babies, we have a baby bed and high chair available. During the Christmas holiday and throughout the summer, we prefer to accept only week-long stays (unless otherwise noted on the calendar). In our calendar, these are the days at 90€. Thanks for understanding!
