You can enjoy the combination of nature and history strolling through the properties of two Medici Villas: Poggio a Caiano of Lorenzo Magnifico, designed by Giuliano da Sangallo at the end of 400 and the majestic "La Ferdinanda" built for Ferdinando I (the Hunter) beetween 1596 and 1600 to the design of Buontalenti, which was recognized by UNESCO in 2013. Equally charming is a visit to the Pieve di San Michele, which houses one of the most renowned examples of Mannerism: Pontormo’s “La Visitazione”. There are also interesting archeological areas dating back to the “orientalizzante” period of the Etruscan Civilization (VII century b.C.) with the necropolis of Comeana and Artimino (with its small Archeological Museum) and the settlement of Pietramarina. The area also offers various sports activities ranging from extensive trekking outings to mountain-bike track excursions. Cycling enthusiasts will be delighted by the idyllic bike tracks which have often been included as part of the “Giro d’Italia”. Carmignano lies in the heart of a wine-growing region of DOC “denominazione di origine controllata” renown. The first decree of regulated wine production dates back to 1716 by the will of the Granduca di Toscana. The region is famous for its beautiful wine cellars, such as the Fattoria di Capezzana, which are all open to the public.
