Stone Farmhouse in Burgundy's Morvan Nature Park

Welcome to Gite Mallerin! Gîte Mallerin is a restored stone farmhouse on the edge of the small hamlet of Mallerin located in the heart of the Morvan Regional Nature Park in Burgundy, France. Gîte Mallerin is a secluded vacation house surrounded by fields and forest and is an ideal location for a quiet holiday. Enjoy the sunset on the large terrace or the fire on a cool autumn night. Take a swim in one of the four great lakes or a hike on the Morvan's 3000 km of trails. Come and relax! The living room is 36m2 and has large glass doors opening to the terrasse. It is equipped with a stereo, tv with dvd and antenna and has a Jotul woodburning stove placed in the old granite fireplace. The living room has a "plafond à la francaise" (a french oak beam ceiling) and the original tiles. The kitchen is completely restored using the original terra-cotta tiles and keeping the french oak ceiling. The kitchen is equipped with an electric stove and oven, microwave, washer and dishwasher. The windows of the kitchen open up to the terrace and glass doors open to the front terrace. The Terrace is 35m2 and opens up to the back garden and lawn. There is a large table with six chairs and four lounge chairs with a table. The beautiful view from the terrace looks out over the rolling hills, fields and forest of the Morvan. The Master bedroom is 36m2 and is furnished with a Queen size bed 160 x 200 with patchwork quilt, a grand armoire, two lounge chairs, an antique desk and a beautiful working fireplace. The Master bedroom has its own bathroom with bathtub, shower, sink and separate toilet. The Loft Room is 36m2 and is furnished with two twin beds with patchwork quilts, 80 x 200 that can be separated or made into one large bed, one lounge chair, and a sofa. Two additional beds can be added to the room and can sleep four. The room has wooden floors, original stone walls, exposed oak beams and has its own bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. You have the entire home plus a spacious terrace and gardens. I am available to help you during your stay. Mallerin is situated in the heart of the Morvan Regional Nature Park between two of the "Great Lakes"of the Morvan, the Lac de Settons, a recreational lake with many watersports and the Lac de Pannecière, a lake reserved for swimming and fishing. In the Morvan there are more than 3400 km. of marked trails for hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding. In the summer there are many organized activities such as music festivals, art expositions, markets, flea markets and other festivities. There are many museums in the area and in Burgundy that are well worth the visit as many of its cities and towns such as Vezelay, Autun, Avallon, Saulieu, Dijon and Beaune. There is plenty of room to park your cars in front of the house. There is no public transportation, so you will need a car to get around. We are very privileged to live in a region as beautiful as the Morvan. The richness of its fauna and flora, and of its forests and rivers encourage us to live in ways that help to preserve its delicate ecosystem. Our gites respect the environment in many ways. We use only biodegradable, organic household cleaning products which are also available in the gite. We encourage recycling and there are containers for compost and recycling located in the gite. The energy which is used in the gite is supplied by Enercoop, the only energy company which supplies 100% of its energy from renewable energy sources. Wood is a source of renewable energy and is abundant in the Morvan Hills. We have chosen a double combustion, clean burning Jotul wood burning stove to help reduce green house gasses. We have a large organic garden and chickens and we sell our fresh, organic fruits, vegetables and eggs throughout the year. Honey bees are essential in preserving our fragile ecosystem. In 2010 we decided to keep bees, and our limited honey harvest is for sale. We have a selection of books, DVDs and magazines on ecological, organic farming, beekeeping, construction and living available on request.
