Relaxing country farm house retreat
This is a modern well appointed farmhouse in the countryside with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. The house is suitable to be used for a base to visit nearby bustling tourist attractions (e. g. Taupo, Rotorua, Waitomo, Hobbiton,Tauranga, Hamilton), and gives you a restful and relaxing home away from home. When a guest makes a booking I move out so in the pantry there are the basics which you are free to use. The house is a large 3 bedroom house which has been our family home for 50 years. Two bedrooms have queen sized beds and the third bedroom has two single beds. Looking at the photos give you an idea of the decor and style of the house. This is a rural property so be prepared for clean New Zealand air, sunshine (and sometimes rain); and beautiful clear starlit nights. The house is on a large section and there are many trees near the house filled with bird song. Around the house extensive native plantings have been done in 2014, while 50 year old trees are in the remainder of the land. A female cat lives at the house and it is well used to staying outside if needed. You have access to all of the house though one room is locked where we store some of our personal belongings. There is a large grassed area for children to play at the rear of the house. Guests are free to use fresh herbs from the garden and there may be fresh vegetables (depends on the season and if the owner is using them). You will be met by the owner (please don't arrive too late) or someone else to make sure your stay gets off to a great start. Guests will be given organic (fresh or frozen depending on the season) blueberries which have been grown on the farm. Any questions at other times can be answered by phone or email. For overseas visitors (and New Zealand ones) the location is central to Rotorua, Hamilton, and Taupo (all less than 1 hour away by car). Hobbiton is 30 minutes drive. Waitomo Caves are a bit further (1.5 hours). We find that when we go away we like to rent a house and "set up home" so that we can be the tourist and know we have a "home" to return to. You could do the same here. You will need to have your own transport as public transport is infrequent. The house is accessed from a main road (100m away) and there is a railway line next to it (which has about 5 freight trains per day). Both these generate some noise - most guests find it ok, but it has annoyed a couple of other guests. The owner sometimes stays in a different building on the large section and the buildings are seperated by trees. At other times the owner is absent.
