On the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, and overlooking Dynefwr Castle in the Towy Valley, lies The Old Forge, a one bedroomed rural retreat. Lovingly converted from an old blacksmith's forge, to create a haven of comfort, character and charm. Its furnished, walled garden area provides the perfect spot to relax and rest those tired feet after a day exploring the stunning countryside such as the Beacons, the Welsh Fans, one of the many local castles or the Pembrokeshire coast footpath. The living area beneath its impressive vaulted, beamed ceiling offers all the comforts you'll need for relaxing after days out. The kitchen is fitted with electric oven; ceramic hob; microwave and fridge with freezer compartment, and plenty of storage units. There is a breakfast bar and dining table. Its furnished, walled garden area provides the perfect spot to relax and rest those tired feet after a hike or cycle through the stunning, surrounding countryside. The double bedroom has plenty of storage with wardrobe and bedside cabinets. All linen is provided, towels can be provided for a nominal contribution of £2.00 per set, and on arrival guests will find milk, tea, coffee and some goodies to welcome them. There is a designated secure parking space in the yard beside the Forge for guests. Secure and covered storage for bikes can be provided by the owners on request. We live across the road from the Forge and try to be available throughout your stay, should you have any queries. However, this cannot always be guaranteed. We arrange access to the Forge with a key safe so that you can access the property at your convenience. The cottage is an ideal base for couples wanting a real country holiday. The National Botanic Garden of Wales, and Aberglasney Gardens are ten minutes from the property; and it's only 4 miles to the picture-perfect town of Llandeilo. With over 50 traders in its extensive antiques centre, fortnightly auctions and a great selection of eateries offering everything from fine dining to bowls of hearty, traditional cawl, Llandeilo's guaranteed to be a place you'll want to return to, time and time again. The property is ideally located for walkers: there are numerous country routes that are accessible directly from The Old Forge, whilst others, such as the glorious 'Welsh Fans' and the Brecon Beacons can be reached by a short drive. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, with its 170 miles of spectacular scenery is only a 45 minute drive to the west, whilst heading south will bring you to the beautiful Gower Peninsula. Just a 30 minute drive will take you to the Millennium Coastal Park, occupying around 10 miles of coastline on the Burry Estuary. The park offers superb views along its length of the Gower Peninsula – the first designated area of outstanding natural beauty in the UK. The Millenium Coastal Park offers a continuous traffic free cycle/footpath that links with the National Cycle Network; the National Wetlands Centre for Wales, and a championship links golf course. The Towy valley, is an area rich in history and there are many castles along the course of the river that tell the story of past battles: Llandovery; Carreg Cennen; Dynefwr; Dryslwyn; Llansteffan and Kidwelly, are all worth a visit whilst you're here. For those wanting to follow in the footsteps of the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, the beautiful village of Laugharne is a short drive away, where you can visit the boathouse, his writing shed (preserved as if he's just stepped outside) and Brown's Hotel. What better way to explore this part of Wales than by bike. Cycle along parts of the nearby National Cycle Network taking in beautiful scenery at a leisurely pace. For those seeking adventure, Carmarthenshire has become one of the most exciting places for the fast-growing sport of mountain biking: Brechfa Forest with its nationally renowned network of trails, is only 15 minutes away by car. The nearest public transport is available on the A476, one mile from the Old Forge. We follow Airbnb’s enhanced cleaning protocol, which was developed with expert guidance. Here are a few highlights: We sanitise high-touch surfaces, down to the doorknob; We use cleaners and disinfectants approved by global health agencies, and wear protective gear to help prevent cross-contamination; We clean each room using extensive cleaning checklists; We provide extra cleaning supplies, so you can clean as you stay; We comply with local laws, including any additional safety or cleaning guidelines.
