La Collina del Sole has an award-winning saltwater infinity pool and jacuzzi, and views that are like something from a film set. Set in the stunningly beautiful Garfagnana region of northern Tuscany, La Collina del Sole is a jewel among the holiday villas in Lucca, it is a fabulous family home for relaxed summer living. Mountain hikes, discovering the villages and hidden beauty of Garfagnana can be combined with trips to the nearby coast, and the magical cities of Lucca and Florence. Good wifi. La Collina del Sole is the much-loved home of a British family. It is ideal for friends and family, with a relaxed and characterful atmosphere. Comfortable and well equipped with fabulous al fresco dining area, guests can enjoy long lazy lunches of delicious Garfagnana products including fabulous pecorino, varied breads, salamis and faro (spelt) salad and in the evenings sitting out on the terrace is a dream as the sun sets over the spectacular Apuan mountain range, unique among Holiday villas in Lucca. It’s hard to draw oneself away from the pool with its Jacuzzi feature and many hours can be savoured here with a book listening to the rippling water and the birdsong beneath the Tuscan sun. Notes on accommodation: Traditional wood fired pizza baking oven and separate stone built BBQ. Cook service available on request. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. Maid service 2 hours each Tuesday and Thursday. Linen and towels changed each Saturday. La Collina del Sole is located in North West Tuscany overlooking the Carrara mountains where Michael Angelo personally chose each marble block to create all of his statues including the David located in Florence (2 hours by car or train). The national park is dotted with small villages and inexpensive restaurants serving exceptional food. There are great walks offering easy rambles or challenging climbs. The nearby market town of Castelnuovo Di Garfagnana is a bustling town of 6,000 people that hosts a traditional market on Thursday mornings and is full of family owned shops selling fresh produce. From June through to late October there are a series of exhibitions and festivals celebrating the local culture and artisanal production. The castellated city of Barga with its Romanesque cathedral, the walled city of Lucca with its towers and Forte di Marmi a luxury resort town on the Mediterranean sea are all within one hour’s drive. Torre del Lago, 15 minutes West of Lucca and just North of Pisa, has an open air theatre overlooking Lake Massaciuccoli devoted to the performance of the works of Italian composer Giacomo Puccini whose operas include La bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly and Turandot. The Garfagnana region was part of the Gothic Line in World War II, a scene of fierce fighting, mainly due to the terrain, between the Allies and Germans from October 1944 until April 1945. It is best to use a car. There is room to park three cars in the villa grounds passing down a ramp, or in a public parking area ~150 metres from the villa. The public road to Fosciandora and the villa is steep and narrow in places. A taxi service is also available. There is a local station with trains to Lucca, Pisa and Florence. Main station Barga-Gallicano, local station Fosciandora (Pisa to Aulla line) Pisa and Pisa airport are 1.5 hours drive away, in part on the autostrada, or by train. Florence is 1.75 hours by car or train (Change at Lucca). Visit the villa's web site (search on La Collina Del Sole, Fosciandora) "Experiences" tab to learn more about funghi porcini and truffle hunting, joining in the Vendemmia, wine tasting and excellent local restaurants and shops. The costs quoted include all taxes, linen, indoor and pool towels, light villa cleaning twice during a seven-day stay, as well as a full clean after your departure. You are requested to wash and put away crockery, cutlery and food preparation utensils. The pool is heated by the sun, so its water temperature varies with weather conditions and the season. It is closed from late Autumn through early Spring. In the Spring and Autumn guests sometimes like to light a log fire in the living room or use the central heating. We can also provide wood for the pizza oven. These items are charged to guests through the Airbnb Resolution Centre on departure. The rate is €20 per basket of wood and €5 per cubic meter of heating gas. We also provide at no additional charge a homemade meat lasagne and an apple sponge cake, along with breakfast basics, which are left for your arrival. If you are allergic or vegetarian please let us know, as a funghi lasagna can be left instead of meat. The villa is our family's holiday home, so we seek to host guests who wish to enjoy the villa for their relaxed domestic recreation. Commercial use, use for parties and moving of furniture are not permitted.
