GETTING TO THE ISLAND The vehicle barge for about $120.00 return departs Redland Bay, takes about 1 hour each way and should be booked; Stradbroke Ferries You then have your car and can use it as you like. The passenger ferry from Redland Bay is about $8 pp each way, depending whether on or off peak. It is MORE if you DON'T have a “Go Card”. This journey is about 15/20mins each way. Be sure to check where you park your car as the parking times vary from 2hrs to unlimited. You can bring a bicycle on the ferry. Both Barge & Ferry provide a wonderful journey. The determining factor is the amount of luggage and what running around you are planning. BOATING TIPS AT RUSSELL ISLAND From Andrew Jan 2018. For shallow draft boats 0.5 - 1.5 metres approach the house by water from mid to high tide each day. Park your boat south (left side) of the mangrove tree at the back of the property. You can tie your bow line to the tree onshore beside the boat ramp and the stern line can be tide to the mangrove tree. If you tide an additional bow line to the mangrove tree you will keep the boat in position. Ensure you are as far off the shore as possible. (3-4 metres from the sea wall). When the tides turns the water depth will quickly begin to shallow so research your tide times and be organised. Deep draft boats can easily anchor directly out from the house, at 75 metres from shore the waters will be 3 metres plus. You can approach the house by tender from mid to high tide. Arriving by car with a trailer boat or jet ski. The property has a boat ramp. The first 2 metres of shoreline are solid to reverse over, beyond that the bottom is muddy so its best to launch at high tide. (see above for overnight mooring tips) There are fuel stations on most of the Islands (walking distance from shore) to fill jerry cans. The closest on-water fuel is at Raby Bay (there is also a public floating jetty so you can dock for coffee or lunch at one of the many restaurants), or you can fuel on-water at Horizon Shores Marina that has a nice waterfront cafe. Make a point to visit the south side of Peel Island for turquoise green waters and boating culture. Be careful, Moreton bay is very shallow in places, stay within the channels, use a Beacon-to-Beacon map book or computer charts. The closest marine rescue is Jacobs Well. 2 Jan 2018 · Andrew
