La petite maison in rural France

Perfect rural romantic hideaway – la maison forestiere within easy driving distance from Calais (4 hours) Caen (1.5 hours) situated on the boarder of Normandy and Sarthe. Sleeps a couple and maximum one more person. Please read carefully before making enquiries to ensure you are happy with the accommodation and the rules. It is our holiday home, and we love it for its authenticity, tranquillity and wealth of things the area offers. The house was originally built for a forest workers, it is situated in the village which adjoins the Forêt Domaniale de Bellême, the large forestry massive. The house has undergone many changes over the years, and since we bought it, we ensure that we retain its character whilst we updated it with modern features. We hope that you’ll appreciate the ‘home from home’ feel we created here over the years. Given the house is not lived in during most of the time, there are odd cobwebs and some dust from wooden beams can be found. We always ensure we thoroughly clean the house before we leave, but I have learnt that the dust settles in even no one lives in the house. If you don't like these, than you may not like the house. However, the house offers all modern conveniences, including broadband. One bedroom is located on the ground floor (I will add the photo in April 14), partitioning from the second lounge, leading to the garden. There is a small double bed. The second bedroom is located on the first floor, the room is small, with a large single bed and has an extra mattress. The room is very well insulated and is ideal for relaxing. The lounge offers a dining room and a sofa-bed and a chair in front of the wood burner. Please speak with us at the time of booking about the fire burning. The guests will access all the rooms in the house. The owners don’t live in the house. Please note that BED LINEN is NOT provided due to the logistical issues. However, there are plenty of towels , blankets, covers and kitchen towels which you are welcome to use. We will not be present during your stay. You can interact with us over emails. You will be responsible for own entertainment. We have friends who are always happy to assist you with further advice. You will need a car to explore historic places Lower Normandy and Sarthe have to offer. To name the few: Fresnay-sur-Sarthe or Mortagne-au-Perche, perfect for a half a day trip with lunch on the main town square, which is always full of local and tourist; Sillé-le-Guillaume, listed as one of the most beautiful village of France, the 18thc National Stud at Haras du Pin all are within 40 minutes’ drive. If you like a day trip, why not take a train to Paris (2 hours away by train) or visit Month St Michel or St-Malo. There are also several historic sites connected to the second world war. Le Mans racing circuit takes place during the 3rd weekend of June as is an event not to be missed. The photos should give you an overview of the house and a range of activities available locally. We are never short of ideas during our stay there. You will find leaflets and books on the coffee table in the main room.
