Cozy loft cottage in the country
Comfy, upstate NY romantic wknd getaway or family escape; spiral stair to loft; full kitchen, private bath w/tub, fold out couch; 1 hr train to NYC; 2 miles to train/shopping/restaurants. Stones throw from apple picking/biking/hiking/and fall foliage! Adult bikes available if host not using. Dog friendly. Beautiful grounds, flower/vegetable gardens, patio w/natural furniture to soak up sun or have a glass of wine. Full use of main house wrap around porch. The cottage is situated above our garage, which is separate from the main house. It has its own private entrance, and "wrap around" patio with chairs and table for relaxing outside. A spiral staircase leads to the sleeping loft which overlooks the living room below. The cozy double bed makes for great snuggling, and the fantastic tub provides enough room to relax after a busy day of sightseeing in Manhattan, or apple picking in one of the orchards only 20-45 minutes away. The refrigerator has coffee for your use and the kitchen is equipped with serving for 4. There are some pots and pans as well if you decide to cook, as well as other cooking utensils, wine glasses and a cork screw! The main house has a wrap around porch which you can utilize at your leisure. Also, please visit the flower garden on the front side lawn. At the top of the hill is another patio with natural, handmade furniture which is great for lounging during the summer and fall. Within the cottage is information regarding house rules and the surrounding area. If we are around don't be shy if you have any questions! The town of Mount Kisco is two miles away. It is considered "the hub of Northern Westchester" as it has some of the best restaurants in the area. The supermarket A&P and Target are conveniently located 1 mile away. Route 117 - also about 2 miles away - connects the towns of Chappaqua, Katonah and Pleasantville. Bedford, Bedford Hills, PoundRidge and South Salem are all within 15 minutes. The Saw Mill parkway is only .75 miles. The famed North County Trail way (bike path) is about 3 miles away There are numerous taxi companies if you need a quick lift to the train and you don't have a car. If you like small town America, check out Mount Kisco, Katonah, Pleasantville, Chappaqua and Armonk. You can stroll around and go into the stores for a quiet afternoon... Kisco has the most restaurants but all towns offer quaint coffee places and nice shops. Another amazing town is Tarrytown only 20 minutes away and on the Hudson river by the Tappan Zee bridge. There are many things to do around the area: If you like history you can visit several places in Historic Hudson Valley: Kykuit (the Rockefeller estate), Sunny Side, Philipsburg Manor, Van Cortlandt Park and Lyndhurst. Every spring and fall Lyndhurst has an amazing Arts Fair with awesome crafts. If you come during those times, be sure to check out the dates. Everything is about 20-35 minutes away. If you want hiking check out Mianus Gorge waterfalls, Teatown Reservation - Ossining, Turkey Mountain- Yorktown, Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve, Break Neck Ridge (Cold Spring about an hour away), Ward Pound Ridge Reservation-Pound Ridge, Westmoreland Sanctuary-near Mount Kisco If you want to bike, there are lots of trails. The North County trail way is 6 miles away. But the area is so beautiful you can just explore around my house. Its also an amazing place to jog or just take long walks. We are really close to many apple picking orchards: Outhouse Orchards, Stuarts Farm, Salingers Orchards, and Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard. In South Salem (20 minutes north) there are some nice vineyards too! There are some nice Parks to choose from. Ward Pound Ridge (15-20 minutes), Rockefeller estate (15-20 minutes) Stone Barns, Croton Point Park (25 minutes) In terms of the "Main House" You can use the wrap around porch in the front and sides of the house whenever you want. There is also an outdoor shower which is the absolute best which you can use in the summer... Its on the side of the house. And if we are on outside on the back porch (we live there in the summer) you can come over and join us. The bathroom is fully equipped with towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner etc. The kitchen has dishes, and pots and pans, utensils, etc...should you need them. It also comes with coffee, tea and sugar for morning coffee. But I ask that you clean what you use before you leave! The train to NY is only 2 miles away in the Town of Mount Kisco. Route 117 - also about 2 miles away - connects the towns of Chappaqua, Katonah and Pleasantville. Bedford, Bedford Hills, PoundRidge and South Salem are all within 15 minutes. The Saw Mill parkway is only .75 miles. Numerous taxi companies are located in town. I ask that you keep the noise to a respectable level. Please do not have loud get-togethers. Smoking is allowed outside the house, but not inside. Please make sure to clean up your cigarette butts if you are outside. If you use candles, please be sure they are out before you leave. Please turn off the air conditioner when you leave the house and shut off all lights.
