Tawarri bushland retreat (main house)
This architecturally designed and environmentally conscious stone house is situated on an acre of quiet and secluded natural bushland. Tawarri's unique position 150m away from the beautiful Glenelg River, 300m from the Lower Glenelg National Park and only 4km from the unbroken beaches of Discovery Bay, makes it an ideal setting for swimming, walking, bird watching, fishing, surfing or simply retreating from a busy life. Tawarri is built from the beautiful local limestone that is the signature of the area, with a beautiful slate floor, exposed Oregon beams and recycled timber lining boards. The warm colours and tasteful decor gives this house a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere that is a perfect setting for a fantastic holiday. Outside is a private courtyard with seating where guests can enjoy complete privacy looking out to the natural bushland and native wildlife. Most mornings you can wake early to watch the kangaroos and wallabies grazing on the lawn just meters away through the large picture frame windows. Echidnas often stroll through the property during the day, whilst at night the trees come to life with koalas, sugar gliders and possums, to name a few of the nocturnal visitors. The beautiful garden is a mix of lawn areas and native trees and shrubs with a healthy dose of fruit trees. Large established trees create shady glens, whilst tighter clusters of shrubs make for some more intimate areas and places for quiet contemplation. The property is just over an acre in size and as well as the house itself includes the Studio apartment (also known as the Cottage) and the gorgeous meditation house (a circular building, 3.5m in diameter.) All in all, Tawarri is a hidden gem of a place that has so much to offer to a broad range of people. It's very hard not to enjoy! Guests will have access to the whole house. It is our second home, so we ask you to respect it and treat it as your own. We also ask you to leave it as you found it as much as is possible. There is a mandatory cleaning fee which covers the bed linen and towels etc, as well as the basics such as bathroom supplies etc. Please do your dishes and tidy the kitchen before you leave. We don't live on the property all the time, however, we have a very competent House Manager who lives next door, so if you have any problems with the house, contact me on (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) and I will get in contact with him asap. Tawarri is on the edge of the small township of Nelson. The Glenelg River is 150m away through a bush track, and it is adjacent to the Lower Glenelg National Park. The ocean beach is 3.5km away. There is a general store (or the "Kiosk"), a petrol station and a Pub. You can hire boats from Nelson Boat Hire ( (Website hidden by Airbnb) ), if you want to explore the river in more detail. There is no public transport to Nelson as such, so a car is a must! Tawarri is on tank water and as such you need to be conservative with water use. We are not offering linen or towels at present, so you will need to bring your own. We will give you more details of beds etc. when you book. Telstra is the only mobile carrier that gives good coverage in Nelson.
