We will do our best to ensure you have a comfortable stay Painted Pony Ranch is one of the first Dude Ranches that appeared on what is now called by New York State "The Dude Ranch Trail". It is a historic ranch built in 1940 and opened in 1942. We are located 5 minutes walk from the Rodeo that used to be part of the ranch property. Of the many local lakes, our cabins look over Poet's Lake and we have access to Lake Forest in which our guests can swim--1/4 mile away--using our guest pass. The Dude Ranch Trail boasted over 22 Dude ranches in the 1940's and '50's. It was a little bit of Western Life with real cowboys who came from all over the world to work here. Although there are few ranches left, Painted Pony remains beautiful. Hidden Valley Ranch, at which Gorman and Peter worked in their youth, has become famous due to the purchase by Paul Newman and Charles R. Wood. It is a refuge for children and families dealing with terminal illness. Many of the older ranches have been divided up and sold off in pieces. Ask Gorman or Peter and we will be happy to discuss the many "Ghost Ranches" that you will drive by without noticing unless we inform you. The Painted Pony Championship Rodeo is the longest continuously running rodeo in the America--started in 1951. It's a must-attend event where the whole family can enjoy the traditions of the American West, dance to country bands and music, and enjoy their famous Bar-B-Que. And you only have to walk 5 minutes! Also, Lake George is 6 minutes away, Saratoga Springs is 30 minutes and all the Outlet Shopping and Glens Falls is 15 minutes away. You have free parking at the ranch in designated areas in front of your cabin or room. If you are really in a bind, we might be able to help.
