Malvern House (all) the former French Consulate

Malvern House was the former French Consulate of Swansea, in a Victorian villa from the mid-19th century. Guests have the entire second floor plus converted attic for their exclusive use, while the owners live on the ground and first floor. There is a shared entrance with grand staircase, but once at the top guests have the space to themselves. Spacious, airy, light filled rooms with a view right across Swansea Bay to Mumbles and the Devon coast enhance the setting in the centre of town. All rooms have been recently decorated and modernised, so although a historic house the usual mod cons are available, such as central heating in all rooms, except attic which has oil-filled electric radiator. A full kitchen, with a range of wall and floor units, 4-ring electric hob, microwave/grill, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer was installed in August 2019 in the guest lounge. The owner has cats but a stairgate at entrance to guest area prevents the cats from gaining access (unless guests want to let the cats in). Guests have exclusive use of the 3 bedrooms they have booked, and the kitchen-diner and bathroom. In total guests therefore have access to: the garden, hallway of house, lounge-diner-kitchen for guests only, bathroom for guests only, and the three private bedrooms they have booked. Please note, one of these bedrooms, Malvern 2 room, is up an extra small flight of stairs above the other main guest areas and has its own landing. The hosts, Ray and Irina, live on the premises in the former servants' quarter in the ground floor annexe. We are generally available during guests' stay, and are happy to provide breakfasts and/or evening meals by prior arrangement on 24 hours advance notice, at extra charge. Malvern House is in the centre of Swansea, on the first level of the hillside, so permitting views without too much climbing uphill. One of the last few remaining merchants' villas that has been left intact from Swansea's heyday as a major port. Situated in the centre of town means excellent location for all amenities. Walking to shopping centre and bus station 5 minutes, to train station 15 minutes, to Marina 15 minutes. Parking for guests available on Carlton Terrace, with access to house then through garden gate. COVID-19 UPDATE: We are open again for bookings. There are some temporary changes to the listing though for the duration of covid-19 circumstances. 1.) Due to continued government restrictions, we will only take bookings from ONE party of guest(s) at a time. So if you are a single traveller, you will have the whole place to yourself and DO NOT share bathroom or kitchen with other guests. If you are a family or household group, we are obviously happy to accommodate your party, since you would all be from the same 'social bubble', and also have the whole place to yourselves. 2.) Pricing structure has therefore been revised on a sliding scale depending on number of travellers, e.g. per night 1 person £40 2 persons £55 3 persons £70 4 persons £85 5 persons £100 3.) The accommodation will be self-catering, in line with Welsh government covid-19 guidelines; so for the moment we can no longer offer the breakfasts. But you have the fully equipped kitchen for the sole use of guest(s).
