All-weather heated geodome in meadow with views
Brand new, luxurious geodome sleeping 2-4 in Aylwins Field, Offham, just outside Lewes. Set in its own meadow, you can lie in bed and gaze at uninterrupted views of the Downs from the panoramic window, or from a sun lounger on the deck. The location has it all: set in the Sussex countryside but 5 minutes from a mainline station (London 1 hour), and a 15 minute drive from Brighton. Stylishly decorated with a woodburner for coziness and a 3m ceiling, this is extremely spacey glamping. Aylwins Geodome is a brand new, 6m diameter by 3.5m high geodesic dome with designer eco woodburner and panoramic window with uninterrupted country views. It is set in Aylwins Field, a meadow in Offham, just outside Lewes. The only other things in the field are a well (fenced) and a vintage airstream (not in use). Offham is a hamlet with a church, a pub, a large country house and a bank of cottages on the other side of the road to the field (some distance from the geodome). There is also a farm shop further down the road (an under 5-minute walk). The geodome is in a corner of the meadow, screened by trees, so you will have total privacy. There are sheep in the facing field and our garden is next door, screened by trees. There is working farmland all around. The dome has wooden floors with (Moroccan) rugs and vintage furniture. There is a king size bed and two mattresses. The ceiling height makes for a very civilized glamping experience. If you haven’t tried staying in a geodome, looking out at the views from your bed, it is one of life’s pleasures! Outside the dome is a sunny decked area with two loungers, a table and benches and a large parasol. There’s a fully equipped kitchen hut with sink, camping hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge (with small freezer area). There is also a BBQ. Behind the dome is an eco-toilet and shower. Aylwins Field is in a country setting but it is not remote - on the road between Cooksbridge and Lewes, only a mile outside the town (walkable across fields) and on a bus route, it is very well-placed for exploring Sussex. Full of antique shops, interesting boutiques and great places to eat, Lewes is a gem, its attractions including Lewes Castle, Anne of Cleves' House and The Depot, a fantastic independent cinema. Brighton is only a twenty-minute drive away, with loads on offer including the Royal Pavilion, Pier, i360, Sealife Centre, the Lanes, theatres, cinemas and great eating and shopping. Cooksbridge Station is half a mile away with a direct line to London Victoria, one hour away. Sussex highlights include Ashdown Forest (great walks and pubs), Seven Sisters and The Cuckmere Haven (water sports and fantastic walks), The South Downs Way and Ouse Valley Way, Charleston and the Bloomsbury trail, Glyndebourne Opera House, Lavender Line and Bluebell Railway and a big selection of gardens and stately houses, including Nymans, Batemans, Sheffield Park and Wakehurst Place. Children will love Drusillas Zoo at Alfriston and Middle Farm (great for parents too as it has a brilliant farm shop, probably the best in the area although there are a few). This is cycling territory and there is direct access across the road from the field to the South Downs Way. The Blacksmiths Arms is across the road. There are some other fantastic country pubs nearby, our favourites being The Jolly Sportsman in East Chiltington, The Griffin in Fletching and The Ram at Firle. Or you can hire a boat up the road at The Anchor Inn at Barcombe for a hugely fun day out. We will provide recommendations and info on the area for you to look through on your visit. There is a bus stop into Lewes at the end of the field, from which there are buses into Lewes. You can pick up the Brighton bus a couple of stops away (about a mile), as well as get to Lewes Station. Cooksbridge Station with direct services to London is half a mile away. You can walk into Lewes which takes roughly half an hour (depending on walking speeds). We will provide details of taxi services. The geodome is set in a meadow, screened from the country road by fencing and trees. There is some road noise, and at certain points in the day this will be heavier. The meadow is next to our garden, screened by trees. You’ll have complete solitude/privacy but might hear some signs of life from our garden (we have a labradoodle and a cockerpoo). There is a working farm and farm shop a 2 minute walk away so you will never run out of milk, and can pop over for freshly baked bread and eggs in the morning :) They do meat and vegetables and a good selection of homemade cakes and pies. Children, dogs and accessibility We have tried to make the geodome child friendly. The things to note are the wood burner (we will provide a guard) and a couple of electricity sockets. There is a well in the meadow (which has a fence round it) but kids should be kept an eye on. The meadow is fenced off from the road. The fences between the meadow and the farmers’ field are quite basic in places. All dog visitors should be on leads at all times as the farmers have zero tolerance when it comes to dogs and sheep. The geodome isn’t suitable for people with mobility issues unfortunately as it is on the opposite side of the meadow to the gate, the deck is raised and the washing/toilet facilities aren’t accessible enough. Please also note that we are trying to keep the meadow as wild and unspoilt as possible, so are keeping cars off it. There is parking close by, and we can take your luggage through to the field on our trailer.
