The village is remote and far away from the tourist crowd. The village itself is a hidden charm. Come to the village, you will experience the real Vietnamese culture knowing how Vietnamese have lived as the way of hundred years ago In the early 18th century, a big typhoon occurred in the sea. Local fishermen had to hide from the typhoon and luckily, they found land to stay. They went into the cave (where you went through to reach the village) and found the big valley behind it. The soil was rich enough to farm and the place seemed a perfect choice to live, so they decided to stay and create the village They lived and supported themselves by fishing and farming in the traditional way until 1942 when Vietnamese soldiers discovered the place and realised there was a big community living here. It was the first time other Vietnamese people knew about the place after roughly 200 years. They named the village Viet Hai which literally means Vietnamese ocean (Hai means ocean, Viet means Vietnamese). By this time, Viet Hai people still lived in the ancient way of living. They went into the jungle to hunt, farmed rice fields and planted fruits. Children went fishing every day to contribute to family meals. They had no idea about education nor civilization. 2005 was the first time Viet Hai people had electricity. If you want to understand the ways in which ancient Vietnamese people lived, Viet Hai is the perfect place for you. The village is located in the biggest valley of Cat Ba national park cased in the idyllic and poetic mountain.
