Old world charm: just relax!
Built in 1720, Le Vieux Presbytère commands pride of place near the village centre. A fantastic venue for a reunion, multi-generation holiday, sabbatical, family holiday or retreat. Rain or shine, it's a comfortable house to relax. With its four bedrooms (two of which have a private bathroom), large salon, and dining room, you will find all you need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is well-equipped with dishwasher, microwave, oven, cook-top, electric kettle, as well as dishes and silverware for 10-12 people. The large grounds have plenty of space to play and relax. There is a covered barbecue area that can seat 20-30 people. Boules/pétanque area, and other outdoor games available. The tree house, with its slide, is a must for the younger guests. Guests have access to the whole house and grounds. If the owners are in residence, they will need access to the chapel on Sunday mornings. (see below) If we are home (in the cottage next door), we keep a very low profile while guests are present, but we are available in case of need. If needs arise when we are not in residence, the English housekeeper/groundsman can be contacted by telephone. Saint Georges sur Erve is a sleepy village of 300 inhabitants. The only commerce is a small but busy restaurant that serves the village and passing workers. It is open on weekdays at lunch, but closed in the evenings. Very good value meal. You should plan to access this property by car. You can get to Evron, 5 miles away, by train from Paris (and other places). You can rent a car by pre-arrangement in Evron. You can also drive from Paris, of course, or take a train to Le Mans and pick up a car there. Le Mans is 45 minutes by car. You will want to explore the wonderful sites of the D Day landing beaches and the Loire Valley from this location. The quaint little private chapel is at one end of the barbecue. The chapel seats about 15 people. Take time to stop and meditate or pray, if you would like. On Sunday mornings when the owners are in residence next door, the chapel is in use for a Christian worship service. This doesn't normally impact guests as the chapel is separate from the house. Children are very welcome, but because of the open nature of the staircase (see photos), very young children might be in danger. The entrance to the house is also up a flight of stairs.
