Hi, kind people thanks for checking us out :) Omah Jegok is a home for you who love animals & nature. A share of your payment is a donation support for a grassroots, non-profit animal protection group: Animal Friends Jogja (AFJ) that I co-founded in 2010. AFJ’s volunteer-based, solely funded from private donations & our own fundraising efforts. Interested in volunteering for AFJ during your stay and help the animals of Jogja? You got it! What to Expect: A Queen size bed, spacey enough for 2 persons. The homy accomodation is in an environmental retreat, in natural surroundings supporting the vital work of Animal Friends Jogja (AFJ). Animal-friendly guests, volunteers, visiting artists, who are traveling to Jogja and looking for a homy-friendly-tranquil lodge instead of a basic hotel room are welcome. Our dawgz-stylee accommodation is located around 8 km to the north of Bantul City and around 2 km to the south of the famous Malioboro Street, in a setting of a riverbank, right before the meeting point of two running rivers at the end of the road. It's a hidden sanctuary in the southern part of Jogja, but only minutes away by motorbike or push bike to both traditional and contemporary art scenes and tourist centre in Prawirotaman area. You'll be spoiled with a lot more birds chirping, frogs singing, cats meowing, gamelan & dangdut sound, dogs barking (of course), pig honking, kids playing in the river, and me yelling to the wildlife hunter wannabes than the annoying noise of the traffic. Because giving is not just making a donation but it's about making a difference, you can spend time volunteering at Animal Friends Jogja! From cleaning, grooming, walking the dogs or just cuddling the furry friends, rescued kitties and doggies, you can just take a small walk to the centre and volunteer there :) Do make time to visit our restaurant: Simple Plant Vegan Kitchen and Art Space, it's just at the back yard. Simple Plant is a garden restaurant serving vegan, MSG-free and palm oil free meals and the only vegan restaurants in town serving cold beers ;) And yes, Simple Plant does support the work of Animal Friends Jogja. What You Get: Free Wi-fi Internet. Tea and coffee are provided throughout the day. You just need to boil the water. Fairly equipped open kitchen with a microwave, and Mr. Fridge! Two shared bathrooms with seated toilets. One of the bathrooms is equipped with hot & cold shower, the other one is to fulfill your need of splashy cold water 'mandi' after a hot tropical day. Cleaning service. Fan is available in every room. To cut down the hassle of finding our place, a pick up from the airport or train/bus station can be arranged. Laundry service is offered for a reasonable additional fee. That great feeling that you have contributed A LOT for the animals in need by staying here. The profit of what you've paid for goes directly to buy supplies for the animals at Animal Friends Jogja. 24/7 security guards who will wag their tails for you ;) Cold beers and soft drinks for sale at the kitchen/mini bar! And liquors delivery service can be arranged upon request. Me and my husband live at the main house at the upper part of the sloping land with the cats and the dogs. You'll be seeing us almost daily, often surrounded by our biggest fans (or most of the time: bosses); the cats and the dogs. My husband, Bandizt, usually goes out of town with his ska band for a tour during weekends. As Animal Friends Jogja Program Manager (or that we usually call my position is for the organisation), I work mostly at home and at Animal Friends Jogja's base camp-which is just a walking distance from Omah Jegok-when I'm not out to go where and about around Jogja or out of town for the sake of the animals :) It makes us happy to be able to have a chat, share a drink and make friends with you our lovely guests, but sometimes we have only limited time to do so. The village where Omah Jegok is located is nearby Kasongan Pottery Village. It offers lot of choices for visitors. Ceramic art galleries lines up in the street, you can just get in and out of the galleries to look around or buy something unique. For you who enjoy stage-musical-theatrical art, 5 mins-ride further to the west will take you to Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja. Interested in puppet theater? Paper Moon Puppet Theater studio is just around the corner. You crave for nature tourism? No worries, there are many options and they are not going anywhere too far. The D.I.Y. is in your blood? Find Survive Garage, a grass root visual art community runs by our friend Bayu. There's also Ruang Gulma, an art collective & alternative space. You can also visit Needle N' Bitch, a local collective initiative focusing on gender, sexuality, and land rights issues where you can involve, participate, and initiate projects according to you skill and interest :) In their house project, you can access their DIY sewing and screenprinting studio, library, and garden. Fulfill your needs for the best damn thing under your skin: it's a pleasure to direct you to our talented tattoo artist friends for the everlasting tattoo project you've been dreaming of at reasonable price. Are you contemporary photographer! Why not hang out with the MES Boyz at Ruang MES 56. It's an artist collective working cooperatively with their communities and networks to manage a house for studio, education, playground and a place to live in. Formed in 2002 with self funding, this community focusing on the development of photography and contemporary art crossing over with other disciplines in critical and contextual works. Local food vendors, ATM, mini marts can be found within 5-10 minutes ride with bicycle or scooter. Tourist streets: Parangtritis, Prawirotaman, Tirtodipuran, and Mangkuyudan streets are within 15 mins ride with scooter. Bars, restaurants offering both traditional and international menus lining up on those streets. Find more interesting-artsy-lively-lovely-relaxing-creative-fun-alternative-you name it activities while you're here. Public transport is still very limited around the area. There's a new route of Trans Jogja (Bus Rapid Transit system) operating and passing Madukismo. However, it takes around 20+ minutes to walk to and from the closest bus stop. Trans Jogja operates from 5:30 AM until 9:30 PM. Ticket costs on Trans Jogja are trip based. Passengers pay for one trip and can go any distance along the bus route. Changing buses is free as long as it is done within one hour from the start of the first trip. It costs only IDR 3,600/trip though. It's more convenient to have your own transport (rented scooter) or we can help you ordering a motorcyle or car taxi with an app. We are vegans for ethical reasons, so we would only serve vegan breakfast or help you with vegetarian or vegan/plant-based meals delivery order to be enjoyed at Omah Jegok. We'd be more than thankful if you also keep the kitchen meat-free and also palm oil free :) Yes palm oil comes from a tree, but the industry has destroyed Indonesia's rain forests. It's sad but true. So please consider to go palm oil free as much as you can.
