With its pretty cottages clinging to the steep slopes and winding paths and lanes, it is truly a picture postcard village. Chalford grew on the woollen and silk industry up to the mid 19th Century. At the bottom of the valley lies the disused Thames and Severn canal which is currently being restored from the Stroud side. Chalford can be reached from the South East on the A419 London Road or, If travelling from the South West, fromJunction 13 through Stroud. Both these routes take you to the Old Neighbourhood Road, which is either a left from Stroud or a right from the south east. If travelling from the North, come off at junction 11A of the M5 through Birdlip and down through Bisley. From all directions, once in Chalford Hill, head for Brantwood Road where you take a right onto Coppice Hill. The Nutshell is nestled just 100 yards on your right. Here in Chalford Hill, we are located close to some quintessential pubs which offer amazing food, plus the ever popular Lavender Bakehouse tearoom is situated at the bottom of the valley and Stroud Brewery is just a short drive. (Or energetic walk down the canal)! Should you wish to eat in, there is the benefit of a small BBQ with a small outside area for you to use.
