Cherrywood Shepherd's Hut at Doolittle's Campsite
Located in the sleepy village of North Curry on the edge of the Somerset Levels. Ideal for exploring Somerset and only 15 minutes away from the county town of Taunton and 10 minutes from the M5. The village has 3 pubs (1 in walking distance), a shop/post office and a community coffee shop. The Shepherd's Hut is located on a small campsite and smallholding with sheep, goats and chickens. The site is a campsite 'no kids allowed' and is very peaceful, you can hear the birds tweeting & switch off. The space is quite basic just a posh camping pod. There are no bedding/linen/towels provided but there is cushions and a crochet blanket. There are electric lights, a kettle, fridge and electric points for charging phones etc. There is a pot bellied stove and barbeque (logs included). No cooking facilities are provided or running water, there is a water bottle and washing up bowl though. The toilet and shower facilities are shared with the campsite. There is a table and chairs (bistro set) that can be used inside or out. The Shepherd's Hut has it's own garden (fully fenced) and you can park your car inside or outside the gate. Small dogs can be welcomed by arrangement. It is a very beautiful Shepherd's Hut with a carved bed frame and solid oak walls and floors so it is very well insulated. It has lots of lovely details like the wooden heart trim outside and working wooden shutters. It is very much no frills but in a beautiful setting and the price reflects this. The campsite is open from the week before Easter to the end of October so someone is usually around to welcome guests or answer questions. If you want to explore the local area or get tips on where to visit we are here to help. We provide leaflets and local information on a noticeboard inside the toilet/shower block. The village has a lovely pub called the Bird in Hand which does great food and a community coffee shop which is great for coffee and cakes. There is a Post Office/Shop that sells local brands from artisan producers as well as the usual range of goods and newspapers/magazines. The village has a beautiful church dubbed the Cathedral of the Moors because of it position above the Somerset Levels looking down over the moors towards the river Tone. It is actually the Church of St Peter and St Paul though. It has been in the same spot since Norman times and has some unusual gargoyles too! The next village of Stoke St Gregory has the Willow and Wetlands centre with a small museum and tours where you can see how willow is grown and produced. Boasting a fantastic café and a few other shops and a nature walk down to river it's a great spot to spend time and learn about the local area. There are also lots of footpaths in the village so it's a great way to see the village. It's best to come by car to explore but there is a limited local bus service to the town of Taunton. The area is great to explore by foot or by bike once your here. The footpaths are plentiful and well maintained (maps can be provided). The small town of Langport is only 9 miles away and offers bicycle rental and boat trips. WE DON'T PROVIDE ANY BEDDING OR LINEN. YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR OWN, DUVET/SLEEPING, PILLOWS, SHEETS & TOWELS
