The Tent at Lower Birch Farmhouse

The Tent at Lower Birch Farmhouse is situated in a tranquil valley in North Devon. Nestled between the rugged North Devon Coastline, the wilds of Exmoor, and the surfing beaches of Saunton, Woolacombe and Croyde. The Tent sits in a field, set within 10 acres of pasture land and gardens that it shares with the main farmhouse which dates back to the 16th century. The Tent offers a cosy open plan living space comprising a king sized bed with lots of lush blankets, floor cushions, vintage furniture and a small cool-box. There is a log burner for heat, a real-life houseplant, and valley views that are bound to make you swoon. On the boxes next to the bed you will find a selection of books including local guides to walks/cycle routes/pubs etc. Located conveniently behind The Tent there is a hot gas powered shower, composting toilet and open air kitchen sink. On the bed you will find a sumptuous duvet and soft crinkled flax linen sheets for a restful nights sleep. Outside there is a fire pit complete with BBQ grill, for heat and cooking. You will also find a picnic bench and umbrella, for a spot of alfresco dining or glugging back a glass of wine while you watch the sun go down. If you are short on time and want to rustle up some grub in a hurry, fear not, we have included a twin gas burner for you to use outside of the tent too. Of an evening you can sit outside and enjoy all that the Devon dark skies have to offer including bats, owls and more stars than you could hope to imagine. Perfect for all you stargazers out there! You are welcome to take a wander through the field, down to the stream, where you will likely spot a buzzard or two and you might even catch sight of the herd of deer that we share the valley with. Magical! As your host we will provide a homemade loaf on arrival and a box of eggs from our lovely friendly free range chickens. There will be milk in the cool-box and a bottle of wine at the end of the bed. In the kitchen box you will find tea, coffee, sugar, olive oil, vinegar, and a few other store cupboard essentials to get you started. We also provide hand soap, washing up liquid and eco friendly cleaning products by the kitchen sink. In the shower we also provide eco friendly shower gel for you and in the loo there will be a loo roll to get you on your way! We will generally be onsite for the duration of your stay. If however we are not around we are always contactable via the airbnb app. Gorgeous sunsets, big skies and peaceful valley views await your stay at The Tent at Lower Birch Farmhouse. Given our 'hidden' location you will need a car to get around. The Tent at Lower Birch Farmhouse is located within easy reach of the market towns of South Molton and Barnstaple for your daily essentials. Close to the seaside destinations of Illfracombe where you will find Damien Hirst's Verity, Lynton and Lynmouth with it's incredible Victorian funicular railway, Woolacombe and Croyde with their world class surfing beaches, and our favourite Saunton Sands for sand dune fun! You are also well placed for walking and cycling adventures on The Tarka Trail and South West Coast Path and of course hikes on Exmoor! Don't forget your walking boots! North Devon has a lot on offer! Devon has a lot of lovely pubs with food options, some recommendations close by, for your googling delight, are: The Black Venus - Challacombe (6 miles), The New Inn - Goodleigh (3.5 miles), The Jack Russell - Swimbridge (6 miles), The Pyne Arms - East Down (8 miles).
