Welcome to our log cabin! This three bedroom, two bath, all-wood home is set on five wooded acres less than a mile from the main highway. There is easy access to historic Frederick and Gettysburg. Surrounded by beautiful National and State Parks and only 20 minutes from Ski Liberty. Enjoy a relaxing time surrounded by trees or take a walk along the neighborhood orchards. Sit on the covered porch, relax by the fire-pit and eat on the back patio – or if it’s cold outside, enjoy the wood stove! Covid-19 note: We are using extra cleaning and disinfecting procedures due to the current situation. You may notice cleaning solution odors during your stay. We will try to keep this to a minimum, but your safety is our first priority. Be sure to check out our mid-week specials! There’s room for 9 people to sleep comfortably. There are two queen beds, a trundle bed (two twin beds with pull-out extra mattresses), and a bunk / trundle bed combination. Someone could also sleep on the comfortable sofa in the living room. The house has two full bathrooms. Upstairs, there is a shower / tub combination. For guests who are mobility impaired, the first floor has a walk-in shower and sofa to sleep on, so that it is not necessary to go upstairs. Our house has two doors. The first door at the top of the deck stairs leads straight to a mud room with a washer and dryer for your wet clothes. The main door to the cabin is further around the porch. For skiers, there is a ski rack and boot dryers. You can hop right in the shower from there to warm up! Please note that while we do everything we can to keep the space tidy and clean, it is a cabin in the woods so you may see some wear and tear associated with that. You can see from our reviews that the place stays clean, but please be aware that the cabin is impacted by the location so you may see some cosmetic impacts. Driveway note: the drive up the hill to the house is steep. If you have a trailer it is probably best to store it at our local helper's house about a mile away instead of trying to make it up the hill, due to the sharp incline off of the road. We do plow and salt early and often so any type of car is fine in the winter. Sound note: because the home is wood with no insulation between floors and rooms, sound does carry. If you have kids or others that want or need to settle down early in the evening, please plan to have the whole house relatively quiet. We store a few things under the stairway (not Harry Potter!) and in the pantry next to the fridge, so those spaces are off limits, but everything else is accessible. The kitchen is stocked with all the cooking utensils, pots and pans you'll need. There are is oil, salt, pepper and some basic spices as well as some hot drinks stored in the cupboards, so please help yourself! We won't be on site, but will be available by phone and email during your stay. We do have local assistants who live just a few miles away that can help. Let us know if you need anything or have any questions! Call us anytime! Our cabin is set in farms, small homes, and orchards. Locally, there is a fruit stand and close-by restaurants. Frederick is home to a fun shopping district and many casual and upscale restaurants. For history buffs, Gettysburg and several battlefields and museums are nearby. The cabin is minutes from the entrances to Cunningham Falls State Park (beach, canoeing and kayaking, hiking to beautiful falls. Nearby is Catoctin Mountain National Park, Catoctin Zoo, Ski Liberty, Mt. Saint Mary's College, Sugarloaf Mountain and several wineries and golf courses. Nearby attractions: Wineries and orchards Golf courses Catoctin Zoo – 8 minutes Catoctin Mountain Park (hiking) – 10 minutes Cunningham Falls State Park (lake, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking) – 10 minutes Gettysburg (battlefield, museum, college) – 20 minutes Downtown Frederick (dining, museums) – 25 minutes Local towns - Thurmont 5 minutes south, Emmitsburg 5 minutes north Ski Liberty – 19 minutes Mount St. Mary’s University – 5 minutes Harper’s Ferry – (museums, tubing, rope courses) – 45 minutes The cabin is a little over an hour from both the DC Beltway and the Baltimore Beltway. There is no public transportation. There's easy parking for four cars, and two spots along the driveway. The driveway is long so if you don't mind some blockage you can also just park behind each other. We do have a turnaround spot so if you choose to block cars in you'll be able to turn around before heading back down the hill to the road. That's back where the drive turns hard from uphill to the straightaway to the house - you'll see when you get there. In the winter, we do plow and salt the driveway proactively, but if you are ever up there and it's a problem please call ASAP and we will fix it. COVID-19 update: we are taking extra steps to make sure our guests are safe. I've added pictures of the extensive arsenal of cleaning products that our housekeeper is using now. It may be harder for me to grant early check-in or late check-out requests as we will be taking significantly more time to clean. Also, my apologies in advance for any cleaning odors - we try to minimize that, but the best way to clean now is not necessarily the kindest on the nose! The cabin is ten minutes from town and sits alone on five acres, so you will not need to interact with neighbors. We are doing everything in our power to make the cabin a safe and enjoyable place to stay during this difficult time. Dogs are allowed, but please only if you know that they are well-behaved and not destructive. The property is very large, but not fenced. We have a cleaning fee of $120. Please respect the property. Ordinarily, it takes two-three hours to clean. If it takes us significantly more than four hours to clean the place after your stay due to excessive damage, we will charge an additional $120 for our cleaning staff to handle the additional work. The home is a non-smoking home. You are welcome to smoke outside. We reserve the right to charge a $100 additional cleaning fee for smoking inside. We understand that things break so don't worry about minor issues! We ask our guests to gather any linens and towels that they used and place in a laundry bag by the washer and dryer downstairs. You are of course welcome to use the laundry machines during your stay - there's detergent and fabric softeners (non-allergenic) stocked. The laundry machine does not run well when stuffed full, so please leave some space if you choose to use it. Please load and run the dishwasher before checking out if there are any dirty dishes. Thanks!!
