"The Nest", 20X30 top flr furnished room w/cathedral ceiling, window wall, spruce paneling, and carpeted flooring. Opens to elevated deck in canopy of trees. Private entrance, FIOS high speed internet/tv, ROKU streaming, half bath/mini-fridge top floor, full private fridge, shared kitchen/dining/laundry/shower first floor. Queen bed and sofa bed. Surrounded by nature's beauty. 10 forested acres. Super hiking, biking, fishing, boating. 5 minutes to outlet shopping, 35 miles to Washington DC. In years past, the cottage was my family's four car garage and party space. As a widow and an empty nester, I decided to transform the structure into living space to house personal treasures collected during my lifetime as a professional artist/musician, and as a quiet place to share with guests from around the world. Furnished with a queen size bed and a full size leather sleep sofa, "The Nest" accommodates a maximum of 4 guests, most suitable for family with children rather than 4 adults. There is a half bath, a mini-fridge, a wall mounted flat screen tv, a coffee table and 2 side tables, an antique oak desk with glass top and chair, a large vibrator chair, dresser, bedside table, ceiling fan/heater, programmable baseboard heat and a/c in season. Exterior door leads to an elevated deck and stairway to ground. An interior staircase, accessed through a second door and the adjacent office space, leads to a shared first floor kitchen, full bath, dining room and laundry. A full size refrigerator, pantry shelves and cabinets are reserved for guests of "The Nest". The kitchen is fully equipped w/electric range, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, tea pot, blender, rice cooker, pots and pans, tableware, and more. The cottage is the west wing of my home, connected by decking to the original "Homestead House". Also located on our 11ac. Mini-Mountain property are a gazebo, a studio/shop, a garden shed, a chicken coop, a small barn and, on the far eastern side, a Lindal Cedar Home, also occupied by family and guests. The cottage is situated about 400 ft above the surface of the lake. The woodland path behind the cottage follows a ridge down to a secluded area at the lake shore and ravine beside a beaver dam. No other house or man made structure is visible. The loudest noises are bird songs. Privacy is valued and the structures are not visible from the public road or other properties. Off street parking is available. Sharing our private property are two family homes, a shop, a small barn, garden shed, and picnic gazebo. My son and grandson, who live on the far side of the property, have four small dogs who are usually inside their home, but occasionally wander over for a visit. Our Mini-Mountain property abuts a 2000ac regional park with 500ac lake, and miles of hiking and biking trails. Canoes, kayaks and rowboats may be rented at the park visitor center. When home and not teaching, Marilyn welcomes guests at her library/music room with grand piano, harp, wall mounted "prepared piano", large screen television, thousands of books and periodicals, instrument collection, and YOGA, Pilates, and fitness programs . Guests may also enjoy the harvest of her kitchen, herb, and berry garden. Marilyn's co-host and handyman has helped develop and maintain the property during the past ten years. He works 9-5, M-F, and may assist our guests when needed. Christine, Marilyn's daughter-in-law, is also a co-host and is available to greet guests, answer questions, and assist when neither Marilyn nor Guillermo is free. Guests will be greeted upon arrival and given a short tour of the facilities either by Marilyn, Guillermo, or Christine. We welcome the participation of our guests in activities taking place at the Mini-Mountain property, either in the gardens, the main deck area, or the craft shop. While respecting the privacy of our guests, we strive to be accessible and available to help out when needed. Boyds is a small country village of single family residences on the edge of the vast agricultural reserve in upper Montgomery County, Maryland. It is easily accessed at the Boyds-Clarksburg exit off I-270 interstate highway. Located approximately 40 miles from the White House and our Nation's Capital, it is also within an hours drive of Annapolis, Gettysburg, Harper's Ferry, Baltimore, Alexandria, Mount Vernon and a host of other historical and recreational sites in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Germantown and Clarksburg are each a 5-10 minute drive, and offer an array of urban amenities for country dwellers, including a public library and arts center, restaurants, health clubs and swimming pools, movie theatres, and a new upscale Outlet Mall. Historic Frederick is about 15 miles to the north, and its many top quality restaurants and lively arts scene are well worth the drive. Public transportation is limited in our rural setting. The MARC commuter train, Brunswick Line, provides convenient public transportation to and from Boyds and Washington DC, and points in between, Monday through Friday in the morning and evening, and the passenger platform is about a mile down the road. The Washington METRO (subway) system can be accessed directly from the MARC train station in Rockville and at Union Station in DC. The Shady Grove Metro Station, the terminus for METRO's Red Line is about a 15 minute drive from Boyds, and has plentiful public parking. The METRO operates from early morning until 11 pm. A private vehicle is strongly recommended for local transport. Guests who arrive without their personal vehicle may either utilise Uber or rent an automobile from Enterprise, a nearby agency that delivers to our door. A few of our hardiest guests have chosen to rely on bicycles as their preferred method of transportation. The visitors center of Black Hills Regional Park features displays of local flora and fauna, and offers workshops, lectures, ranger led pontoon boat rides, and boat rentals. The public entrance to the park is located on Old Baltimore Rd. The Discovery Sports Center with Olympic size swimming pool, golf driving range, and more than 20 soccer fields and playgrounds is a 10 minute drive. There are many hiking and biking trails to explore in the village, and many more miles of rural rustic roads and trails in the surrounding upcounty area. A favorite destination for bicyclists is Sugarloaf Mountain with stops at the Sugarloaf Winery and the historic Comus Inn. Suzanna Farms on Whitegrounds Road is also a lovely spot for those who are interested in rare and unusual evergreens. The new Clarksburg Outlet Mall is located at the intersection of Clarksburg Rd and I-270, a 5 minute drive from our Mini-Mountain property.
