Friendly Family Home with nice views
Bath is a great city to visit, having beautiful Georgian architecture, thermal hot springs with a roof-top swimming pool, Roman baths museum, and countless cafés and restaurants. There is also the Costume museum and Jane Austen centre, many art galleries, all within a relatively small area of the city centre where you can walk from one spot to another in minutes. Our house is in a quiet residential area not far from the centre of Bath. We can offer one of our two sitting rooms which converts into a private bedroom. A sofa bed folds out to a king size comfortable double bed. All our bedding is made of 100% cotton and towels and hairdryer are provided. There is also a very small single bedroom (just space for sleeping in a full size single bed) available upstairs. It is very quiet in our street at night and many guests have commented on how well they have slept here. The bathroom and downstairs toilet and washbasin are shared with the host family. Guests are welcome to help themselves to hot drinks at all times. You will enjoy great views across the valley from the garden and its sheltered patio. We are a vegetarian household and provide a wholesome cold buffet style breakfast (muesli/ porridge/ yoghurt/ wholemeal toast or rolls with a number of different spreads or cheeses/ boiled eggs/ fresh fruit and tea, fresh coffee and juice ) included in the price. There is the option of an occasional vegetarian meal with us (by arrangement) when I would ask for a contribution towards the cost. I'm happy to cater for people with special dietary needs provided that you let me know in advance. The house is situated on the north east side of the historical City of Bath, about 30 minutes on foot or less than 10 minutes by car from the centre, yet very close to open countryside with some lovely walks. One of those takes you to an old Norman chapel, surrounded by a cemetery and a holy well in an enchanting garden. The bus stops opposite the house and takes about 20 minutes to the bus and train station. There's plenty of on-street parking and the neighbourhood is very pleasant. Bath is a popular tourist attraction, with a cosmopolitan ambience but small enough to explore its historical sights and unique architecture on foot. The city has a variety of great restaurants, some of which are very reasonably priced . Nearest to us is The Claremont Pub which serves good pizzas; it's no more than 10 minutes walk away. The nearest local shop (open 7/7) also is within easy reach on foot. Theatres, cinemas, sport-centres, the famous spa-bath, museums, art galleries, pubs and night-clubs - it's all there. Bristol is 15 mins away by train whilst Salisbury, Oxford and famous sites such as Stonehenge, Avebury, the Cotswolds and Glastonbury or the beaches of the south coast are within easy reach for a day out. Non-smokers. No Pets. Wi-Fi Guests are welcome to sit out on our patio when the weather allows! We have a long garden with a small field at the end, and beautiful views over the countryside to the south east. In summer we often serve breakfast in the garden. Having lived here for a long time, we know all the best places to visit, and we're happy to discuss the local area with guests. We are in a quiet suburb with rolling green hills, lovely views, walks into the open countryside 5 minutes from our house, and a 30 minute walk to the city centre, hilly but with great views. The centre of Bath has lots of interesting and unusual shops, and many restaurants and tourist attractions. There is a bus stop right opposite our house, and it takes around 10 minutes to the City centre. To get here from the city, take the No. 6 or 6A from the bus station (which is close to the train station) or outside the Guildhall and other locations. If you feel fit and walk into town there are wonderful views on the way, and it takes 30 minutes. We are a vegetarian household and so do not like meat or fish in the house. For local eating out there is an excellent pub called The Claremont, where you can get home made pizzas - and a good selection of drinks.
