The Glass House is a detached cosy private sanctuary superbly converted from a former stained glass workshop in Bollington (named by The Times as the best place to live in NW England). Perfect for exploring the Peak District (1 Km away) but still close to local amenities. If you like real ale, wine, fine dining, arts or café culture, you have many great options a short walk away. Alternatively you can simply relax in the suntrap courtyard or play your favourite instrument in the music room. - Covid 19 safety measures - For your (and our) safety we have signed up to the AirBnB cleaning Protocol. Following our re-opening in April 2021 we have been following all the guidelines laid down by both AirBnB and the UK Government. The Glass House draws you into Bollington life the minute you step over the threshold. A unique, upside-down, detached 19th Century cottage set in The Heritage Triangle of Bollington, Cheshire, on the edge of The Peak District and The Cheshire Plain. Steeped in history, this designer conversion has previously seen life as a stained glass workshop, reminders of which can be seen in the first floor windows. The property is something of a ‘Tardis’, widening out towards the rear from a narrow frontage in a quirky wedge shape. The ground floor comprises a generously sized bedroom (which can be either double or twin bedded on request) and an elegant bathroom with rain shower. Along the hallway there is a music/reading room where you will find a variety of instruments for guests to play. These include a drum kit, electric keyboard, electric and acoustic guitars and ukuleles. There is also a sofa and a selection of books for those guests who like a quite space. A door leads outside to the private secluded courtyard with seating for those relaxing summer afternoons and evenings. A staircase leads up to the first floor, where you will find an open plan living/dining/kitchen area with original oak roof beams and light streaming in from all angles through the stained glass windows and roof lights. Ground Floor • Entrance Hall leading to: • Music/reading room with door to courtyard • Bathroom with bath and overhead rain shower, WC and basin • Bedroom with king size width bed (which can be made up as two single beds if preferred), chest of drawers, bedside tables, wardrobe and a cosy modern rocking chair. You'll have the whole property to yourselves. I only live around the corner so am on hand if needed The cottage is located in the town of Bollington, a thriving, bohemian-tinged enclave on the very edge of the Peak District National Park. Pay a visit to The Lime Tree Restaurant for farm-to-table fare, one of many restaurants/wine bars/pubs within 5 mins walk, or take a stroll to The Cotton Tree (our personal local) for a pint. Wonderful walks along the Cheshire Ring canal, The Gritstone Trail or through The Goyt Valley are on the doorstep. Hire a canal boat or bikes for the day. For city lovers Manchester, Liverpool and Chester are within easy reach either by car or train. Several National Trust properties are less than 30 mins drive away. There is ample free parking outside The Glass House, or room for your car in the private gated courtyard if you prefer it to be more secure. There is also a regular bus service from Bollington into Macclesfield (about 4 miles away). The railway station at Macclesfield gives you quick and easy access to Manchester, Liverpool and Chester for days out. There is such a wealth of places to visit around and about Bollington which makes The Glass House a perfect base. Whether you are a walker, a cyclist, a keen visitor to historic houses or you prefer city breaks you can access them all from here. On the other hand you could abandon the car, stay local, have a few leisurely walks in the beautiful Peak District and still have every amenity on your doorstep..... and we offer substantial discounts for stays of 7 days or over.
