A slice of life in a whitewashed village
A traditional village house at the head of the Vallé de Lecrín. Only 20 minutes from the historic city of Granada, 20 minutes from the coast, and around an hour to the slopes of the Sierra Nevada. The apartment is the top floor of a converted traditional townhouse in the village of Mondújar, and features; a traditionally styled Andalucían kitchen, two roof terraces to enjoy all of the Andalucían sun, and the breathtaking views to the lesser Alpujarra and over the valley; a large bathroom with modern shower, bidet, and washing machine; sitting room with ceiling fan and pellet burner (for those chilly nights in autumn and winter); a double and a single bedroom, which can house 2 singles on request. Both bedrooms have traditional Andalucían balconeras (full-length windows with a ‘Juliet’ balustrade), with full traditional persianas Lecrín can give you the best of all that Spain has to offer in a holiday. In the springtime, enjoy the heady, at times almost intoxicating, aroma of the citrus blossom from the many orange and lemon groves which fill the valley; in the summer evenings, the scent of Dama del Noche fills the air. All year round, the valley offers many attractions, with many lovely walks, cycling, and ancient Moorish castles to explore. The valley and the hills provide an abundance of walking routes, from an easy stroll around one of the whitewashed villages of el Vallé, to the challenging hike to find the ancient Castillo de Zoraya (Castillo de Mondújar) which has stood in its imposing location overlooking the valley for 700 years. All of the villages have their own character, and each has it’s Mirador to enjoy the views. In the summer, the old mill in the village of Mondújar becomes a venue for many cultural and popular concerts. Take the short journey to Granada to visit the world-renowned Alhambra (be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment), or to wander the narrow streets of the old town; it’s an experience not to be missed. For the adventurous, one can still follow the old road to the coast via the Alpujarra, twisting through the mountain villages of Orgiva and Lanjarón. There are small supermarkets in both Mondújar and Talará, each within easy (a 5 minute stroll) walking distance of the apartment, and the village has regular visits from sellers of bread (twice daily), fish, and various seasonal fruits and vegetables, plus a weekly market. There is a tennis court accessible in the valley (5 minutes in the car). There are various cafés, bars and restaurants nearby (an easy 5 minute walk), as well as further on into the Valley. There is ample space for parking by the church. For those without a car, there is a bus stop by the park, which is a minute walk from the house. Please check Alsa's time table.
