Welcome to Grassmere, our modern studio apartment nestled in the rear garden of our family home in the eastern suburb of Magill. Built to provide comfortable year round living it is fully equipped and self-contained with 2 bedrooms (1 X Queen Main Bedroom & Double bed in Bedroom 2), kitchen, bathroom, living & dining area and patio deck with BBQ and outdoor dining area overlooking well maintained gardens. We are centrally located being only 10-15 mins drive to all major attractions located within the Adelaide CBD such as the Festival Theatre, Adelaide Art Gallery, Adelaide Oval, Convention Centre, Museum, Zoo, Botanic Gardens etc. As well as some of the country’s best food, dining and night life precincts all close by and able to cater for all levels of sophistication. Ranging from quality take home meals to fine dining. If shopping is your thing then choice is here in abundance, with Burnside Village and Rundle Mall being 10 min drive away and the Norwood Parade and Magill Rd shopping and antiques specialist stores even closer. For those into cycling you couldn’t ask for a better location. We are located in the foot hills at the bottom of the challenging Norton Summit climb, used frequently as a training ground by some of the country’s elite cyclists as well as stages for the world renowned Tour Down Under. Living here in South Australia means we are also blessed with having some wonderful award winning wines produced by dedicated and passionate vignerons and winemakers. The closest and arguably one of the most famous labels near us is that of Penfold's Magill Estate, home of the legendary Grange being only 5 minutes’ drive away. Here you will be able to undertake guided tours and discover the history behind the legend and sample and purchase some fantastic wines to take home to nurture into maturity. While you are there you may want to enjoy brunch/lunch or dinner at their restaurant or cafe' where you can enjoy anything from coffee and savoury pastries or cake, casual or extended lunch with wine pairings through to fine dining. For those who enjoy good food and wine this is a must do. Our location also make the wine regions of the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale all very accessible and able to be visited on day trips or guided tours. You may want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and discover one of Adelaide’s hidden jewels, Morialta Conservation Park. Being a short 5 minute drive away you will find breathtaking scenery, stunning waterfalls (best in winter months) and a wonderful place for a walk or extended hike. Here you can take in some of nature’s splendor in the landscape, geology and local flora and fauna. There is also a fantastic playground and picnic area for a family outing. Well worth a visit. As you can see we are ideally located for your Adelaide stay and would welcome you as our guests and offer any assistance to make your stay an enjoyable, pleasant experience. We also aim to be as sustainable as possible using eco products sourced from Ecolateral Sustainable Living Products in Magill. Access to studio is via a shared gravel driveway which can be used on arrival and departure for unloading and loading purposes. Street parking only. Magill is a quiet leafy green suburb with easy access to City and surrounding hills. Grassmere is close to public transport - a short 5 minute walk to Magill Road for the bus stop which will take you straight into the city. One of the things most of us don’t consider when we travel or go on holiday is our impact on global carbon emissions. It is possibly the last thing that would enter our minds. A recent study shows that tourism accounts for 8% of the world’s global carbon emissions. A title that puts it right up there as one of the world’s leading contributors. We can all play a part in reducing this figure. Simple tasks such as turning off power to lights and air conditioning when not in use. Recycling glass, aluminum, plastics, paper and cardboard. Take reusable bags when grocery shopping and the use of public transport can all contribute towards lowering our emissions figure. Grassmere House was built with energy efficiency in mind by upgrading insulation in walls and ceiling space, under floor insulation, use of low energy LED lighting as well as using solar glass windows to help trap in the heat in winter and the cool in the summer months. We also use environmentally sustainable products where we can such as refillable shampoo and conditioner bottles and unpackaged items such as soap and compostable bin liners to help reduce our impact on adding plastics to landfill. We will continue to improve its performance in terms of becoming more sustainable with plans to future screening of western wall from the suns radiant heat and replacing existing electrical appliances with more energy efficient items. This will have benefits to both the environment and our guests in lowering our carbon footprint and allow us to continue to provide comfortable, affordable accommodation. Our ultimate goal is to become a carbon neutral guest house in terms of power consumption and minimize our impact on landfill. We should all play our part in creating a better world for future generations to enjoy living in this beautiful planet.
