Right in the Amish heartland of Ohio, near Holmesville. Our Schoolhouse sits right beside the Holmes County Trail. Bring your bicycles to ride on the trail or just walk it. Only 20 minutes by car from Berlin, Ohio , the largest tourist area in our county. In 2021 we are celebrating the 125th year of this schoolhouse that spans 3 centuries! The current brick structure was built in 1896. It is a triple-layered brick construction which provides for its deep window sills. Together with large sandstone foundation it has stood the test of time. Inside you will find refinished hardwood floors on the lower level and arched doorways in certain parts. The upstairs loft features a unique blend of contemporary and rustic design, complete with exposed beams, distressed ,painted, and sealed wood work with high ceilings and awesome skylights. The schoolhouse sits on 1 acre of land which is great for playing with the kids or pets. You can also just relax and even have a small fire in the side yard. PLEASE READ! This is our home and there is no private entry. You enter through the dining/living room and into a hallway where the door and stairs ( slightly steeper than more modern homes) to your private quarters are. Due to recent guest complaint we have removed the amenities listing our downstairs kitchen, living room and dining room. We will do our best to ensure they are clean and tidy but life happens and this is our full time home so we can't always guarantee that our space will look like a Home and Gardens magazine cover. If you can tolerate our less than perfect living spaces, then you are welcome to request to use them. The same applies to our laundry, backyard and patio. We try to keep them neat but life happens so we aren't officially listing them but they are there if you can enjoy them. We can be available for social aspects but we are fine with just letting our guests do their own thing. We will be happy to accommodate your needs as best we can. Just let us know how we can help. This area is a reasonably quiet area. An automobile may pass the schoolhouse once every hour on most days bar any commuters going to or from work. Amish buggies and their horses will use the trail quite frequently and will occasionally pass by the schoolhouse. If you are looking for a quiet respite this is definitely a place to consider. While there are hills around it is easy to get to the location. The roads are paved from the main routes you would take to get here. Also, the nearest gas station is less than 5 minutes away in Holmesville. There is a Subway and convenience store there. The nearest restaurant is Fire & Ice Pub about 2 miles up the road. No public transportation is near hear. This is a rural area and you will need to plan to have your own transportation. Salt Creek runs right next to the trail in this part of the county which gives the walk or ride on the trail a tranquil experience. We do have WiFi (cable internet) with high speed access so feel free to stream movies from your favorite service. The WiFi password should arrive with your checkin info after your booking is confirmed.
