It was at first simple marsh settlement, then river town and important Roman municipium , then medieval town. It passed trough the domination of Carrara before, and Venice untill the the fall of 1405. From 1797 it belonged to the Lombardo Veneto Kingdom , passing in 1866 to the Kingdom of Italy. " Venice the beautiful , Padua his sister" is a popular saying . The comparison with Venice should already make it clear to those who have never been in this city and it make just an idea of what the guest will find here. Not to miss: the Scrovegni Chapel of Giotto ; Basilica of St. Anthony ; Palazzo della Ragione ; Eremitani Church ; Basilica of Santa Giustina ; Botanical Garden; Prato della Valle ...
