Peaceful Portage Park Apartment
You have the entire apartment all to yourself (kitchen, bathroom, 2 bedrooms and an office). Shared backyard. Portage park is located about halfway between O’hare airport and downtown. It is one of the safest neighborhoods in Chicago. Parking is easy! We’re 2 blocks away from a park (dog park, playground, walking/running path, tennis courts, indoor and Olympic sized outdoor pool). Fairly close to coffee shops and good places to eat We are family friendly House trained dogs are ok : $10/night We think you’ll enjoy the clutter free decor and pleasant lighting.. the apartment gets great sun and has central heat and AC. You’ll always get a spot on the block, usually right out front. The street is all single family homes and people use their garages. We have plenty of kitchen tools and and dishes on hand... if you need anything random there is a dollar store at the end of the block, and we live downstairs should anything else come up-we are happy to share anything we’re not using at the moment House trained safe dogs are welcome per our house rules (no dogs in bed or on sofa). Please ask first. We charge per dog like an extra person. Indoor and Olympic sized outdoor pool at the nearby park (closed during covid). Dog park, playground, running paths, and tennis courts are available. There are at least 2 great cafes nearby (one of which has a small attached vinyl record store) as well as a tea shop. There are several affordable restaurants within walking distance. If you are looking for Chicago style pizza, there is giordanos close to us. If you’d like a fancier place for a date, a little further but still walkable is “community “ and “eris”, a new brewery /restaurant in an old bank building. There is a highly rated italian restaurant 2 blocks away. We are close to rehearsal spaces you can rent by the hour if you are a musician. You can walk to a used music instrument shop that’s the best kept secret among Chicago bands. Guests with kids: we have toys and books on hand for babies and small children, a pack n play., and a high chair. Please request these in advance. We have a 4 yr old son and are up for a play date and/or loaning out add’l quality toys and books so you don’t have to travel with that stuff. We have an extra car seat you can borrow provided we are not out of town using it. We have a stroller you can use as well. (Plz ask first to make sure we still have it st time of your booking). Unlike more congested areas, You won’t be wandering around looking for parking with kids in tow as parking is easy and you usually get a spot right out front. The Irving Park bus will take you to the blue line as well as the metra. The blue line goes to the airport (northwest), and Logan square, wicker park, and downtown (south east). You may also take the central bus to hit the blue line going towards o’hare You have the whole unit to yourself. Kitchen, bathroom, 2 bedrooms and an office with 2 locked entrances . We live below. Text is best to reach us right away. By default we are hands off- as long as there are no issues. Depending on our schedule we are open to interacting and hanging out in the yard (during warm weather of course). If you are traveling with small kids we are open to play dates if all the children are healthy. If our dogs get along and both are healthy they can play in the yard Portage park is super safe, peaceful, and well kept up. We have a huge park 2 blocks away with ample walking/running paths, playground, a free indoor and Olympic sized outdoor pool (closed during covid), tennis courts, soccer and baseball fields, etc Brgrbelly is down the block and a great place with really good burgers. Portage grounds serves really good coffee and is across from the park. The percolator is a charming neighborhood spot with an attached small vinyl record shop. We just tried legno and though I’m not normally the biggest Italian food fan, it’s now a place we regularly frequent as the food was really impressive and authentic and the ambiance is nice, while being family friendly. Midwest buy and sell is the go to place to buy used musical equipment, especially guitars. You’ll get the best deals there as they don’t sell online and you can bargain a little. The patio theater is an old restored theater that shows some really good stuff on occasion, but can be a mixed bag as they also book random concerts there. Beautiful space! The portage theater is similarly awesome. (May be closed during covid) There are 3 jewel grocery stores all similar distance to the house, 5-8 minute drive. THe nearest Whole Foods is just over 2 miles away though jewel carries plenty of organic and natural foods now. There are other places we can suggest if you book the spot, in our neighborhood but also other neighborhoods you may travel to Easy street parking. Most days half the street parking on the block is open. Our guests usually get a spot right out front Irving park bus to the blue line or metra. 8 minute drive to the highway. 20 minutes downtown without traffic The apartment is on the 2nd (top) floor. It gets plenty of light. Sadly the space is not wheelchair accessible. There is one flight of stairs to get to your unit. The steps are somewhat narrow and a little steep The windows are high so safer for kids. Please remind us before your arrival if you are traveling with children so that we may get it ready for kids. Please check the safety for yourself based on your child’s age when you arrive and use your judgment. If you think your child may knock something over please move things that are a concern to the back porch. Everything is cleaned with non-toxic eco products. Even our antibacterial cleaners are plant based (oregano oil is the disinfecting ingredient) Feel free to ask us any questions before booking
