Secluded, renovated apartment in a 100 year old stone garage. Harriman State Park and great walks and hikes are steps away. Ground floor entry and kitchen, with a LR/BR upstairs; main house is 130' away. We accept well-behaved adult dogs for stays of a week or less with a fee of $20 per night, paid separately/later (see details and pet rules below). The space is perfect for one adult or a couple or a couple with young kids (maximum capacity is 2 adults and 2 kids 14 or under). The eat-in kitchen is about 17' by 7', with lots of windows and all new stainless steel appliances, a new counter top and sink, and redone cabinets. It's very well stocked with high end pots, pans, and cooking gear. There's a table that seats 4. Upstairs the living and bedroom space is one long room, about 25' feet long. The floor is 17' wide, giving a good feeling of spaciousness, but given the roof pitch the walkable space is about 10 feet wide. There's a queen bed with nice bedding and two 5 inch twin mattresses perfect for kids. There's a comfy living space with a love seat, a leather chair and a large TV. The bathroom is small with a shower, sink and toilet, but has great views of the park! The wooden floors have been recently redone. The outdoor space, which is private and level and has a chimnea, two Adirondack chairs and a dining table with chairs for four. Guests have full and exclusive use of the apartment and outdoor space outside it. We use the garage underneath for storage (not for parking cars), but will refrain from accessing it while guests are present (we have a separate shed for stuff we use more often). And you are literally steps from over 50,000 acres of state parkland, with countless trails and many streams and lakes. Unless we are away, we will be available to help in any way we can. We really enjoy helping our guests with information and good service. We'll be happy to tell you all about the hiking options, the history of the estate the property was once a part of, and local attractions. The seclusion and direct access to fantastic Harriman State Park couldn't be more unique. Harriman is so big and has so many trails (and we're in a less used part of it), that we see other hikers only occasionally. Our brick Georgian colonial was the main house of a 150 acre family estate in the 1910s and 20s. The former estate includes two stone barns, which are now nearby residences. Shopping and restaurants are nearby, but you may not want to leave the grounds. A car is most convenient, but if you bring what you need you can take the train or bus to Suffern and get a taxi or uber to the house (uber and lyft are available and many guests have done fine without a car, it's just not as instantaneous as in the city) . Pets: We will consider well-behaved and well-trained adult dogs for stays of a week or less. We charge an additional $20 per night, which we collect via Airbnb's platform as an additional request prior to your stay (Air finally added a pet fee capability, but it doesn't accommodate nightly fees). If you leave your dog alone in the apartment, we ask that you set up our child gate and keep it in the kitchen or in a crate. We have other common sense rules that we can share that allow us to host guests and their dogs. We have two Goldens.
