We are really excited about our new conversion. Completely self-contained, it is a lovely, light, cosy open space with a well equipped kitchen, modern bathroom and a cool sleeping platform/mezzanine. Piddlehinton is a special place, 20 mins from the Jurassic Coast and 10 mins from Dorchester, in the renowned Piddle Valley, with beautiful walks, views and award winning pub, The Thimble Inn. We’re right next door if you need anything, but if you prefer your privacy, you can be totally separate . This modern, airy, self contained living space has been lovingly converted by us, and we are very proud to have had the help of our many wonderful local friends, tradesmen and artisans! There is a a comfortable double bed upstairs on the mezzanine, with divan drawers for storage and space for luggage, whilst downstairs there is additional provision for a further 2 guests, if necessary, on our lovely new sofa bed. All linen is provided, including towels. Two wall heaters are plenty to keep you toasty, but if you want to get down and rustic, there is a brand new, fully tested and CO2 alarmed wood burner called Lydia! Hot water on tap... The modern bathroom has a lovely, Mira electric shower, a heated towel rail. There is a small room off it, with extra shelving and hanging space (handy for longer stays), ironing board, drippy and a washing machine. The fully equipped kitchen comes complete with a dishwasher, cooker/hob, kettle, toaster and microwave as well as a small fridge freezer. If you need more freezer space, we have a chest freezer in our garage that you are more than welcome to use. All the basic kitchen bits and bobs, such as crockery, china, saucepans are provided for your use, but if you wish to be away from the kitchen, and prefer to eat out, there are so many good places to eat nearby, you'll be spoilt for choice! You have your own entrance, via a side gate, with a covered porch which provides a boot rack for the walkers amongst you, and this also leads to your own private outside garden area. A small sun trap – perfect for an early morning cup of coffee, or an evening cocktail! It provides a small table, chairs and a chiminea. The whole space (plus small outside area) We live next door, so we can be on hand as much or as little as you would like! You’re SO welcome to knock on our door for a chat, or to be completely undisturbed and enjoy your stay in peace, but of course we would always be available to contact if you need us. Good to note that, when John is around, he is very much a handyman! What can we say about Piddlehinton? It is truly a special village-friendly and beautifully Dorset. It has been our family home for over 10 happy years. There are many things to do around the area - lovely walks, the most amazing pub and the County Town of Dorchester is only a ten minute drive away. Thomas Hardy's sister was the local school mistress here, so Hardy was a regular visitor to the village and school house. The village is steeped in history. There are lots of things going on in this vibrant community- a thriving village hall with regular activities, which can be hired out. It also boasts a beautiful 12th Century Church. The fabulous Thimble pub is 70 yards from the Yorkshireman (I know I've walked it more than once!) serving delicious food and a great range of wine, beer and ciders The Millennium Green is a short stroll away and is a delightful place for children and families to enjoy by the banks of the River Piddle. There are many local footpaths to explore. Puddletown forest and Thorncombe Woods are 10 minutes drive away.  A little further afield, there are the popular resorts of Lyme Regis and the bustling, artisan Bridport. We have many varied beaches near us, ranging from quiet, undisturbed beaches such as Ringstead (14 miles), to the National Trust beauty of Studland ( 27 miles) with fun, family friendly Weymouth (14 miles) and the world famous Lulworth Cove in between! There really is a beach for everyone in Dorset, and we are no further than 1/2 hour from the very best of them! The village is almost exclusively reliant on a car, however there are excellent rail links to the rest of the country in nearby Dorchester and Sherborne. The area is a cyclist's paradise with some lovely vistas, and a few some tricky hills for the die hard! While converting the space into a residence, we were aware from the outset that, while downstairs has a beautiful open feel, our bedroom area became more of a sleeping platform than we had (Website hidden by Airbnb) more than holds our double bed, but it HAS got a limited headroom and this must be noted. The apex is above the bed, so you are able to sit up and read in the bed comfortably , but you will have to duck while moving around up there! Although mostly a quiet and picturesque village, the Yorkshireman is on the valley road - the B3143, and you will be aware of road noise from local and farm traffic at certain points in the day, but it is almost completely quiet throughout the night hours. The road has a 30 mph speed limit, and is narrow in parts. Our children sleep on the road side of the house and have never had any issues with it, but be aware that it is the route into Dorchester for businesses and most valley residents.
