Our beautiful Bowtop Gypsy Caravan - Richenda - has been lovingly renovated to create a cosy throwback to the lifestyle of gypsy wagon dwelling. Hand painted enamel pinlining and gold-leafed embellishment gives this ornate wagon a traditionally elaborate appearance. Its intricate little coal burner makes it a warm cosy caravan and gives a beautiful glow, as a back drop to while away the hours, admiring the view, sipping tea or wine, reading, listening the birds of prey calling above. *PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BFEORE BOOKING!* The gypsy caravan is set into the hillside with a beautiful view of the rolling Devon hills and the surrounding countryside. You can often see birds of prey in the sky and hear Owls calling at night. If you enter the woods with deathly silence, you may even see a Deer! There is a outside fire grate and logs, picnic bench with plenty of space around the caravan to sprawl out sunbathing, picnicking and star gazing. The gypsy caravan is well insulated and has a ornate burner that gives great warmth and a lovely cosy glow. There is a shower, basin and composting toilet situated approximately 100m away, which also has a fabulous view! Unfortunately we don't have mains water so there is currently no drinking water but we provide 5L of bottled tap water fresh for your arrival. We are situated about 1.5 miles from Torrington town which has a variety of shops, pubs, eateries, The Plough Arts Centre and a some beautiful walks around the Common. There is no electricity on site/no lighting/no wifi/no mains water - it is rustically back to basics, rural and close to nature! The caravan has been lovingly restored, with hundreds of hours spent bringing her back to life, making it possible to give this pretty unique experience to people. (I must state that this is NOT a 'glamping' site - The whole project on the land here is viewed with sustainability in mind. As you will see, reusing, recycling and reclaiming, growing food on the land, building a community that is learning together and aiming towards and more sustainable way of life). In the gypsy caravan - * NO TOWELS provided * 1 fire extinguisher (situated to you right, as you step into the caravan the bottom right cupboard, nearest the front, under the crockery cupboard) and a First Aid Kit. A smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm. 5L bottled tap water. Kettle for the burner. Two cups (large). 2 tea cups (small). Bottle opener. Can opener. 6 sets knifes, forks, spoons. 1 sharp knife. 2 plates. 2 bowls. 2 wine glasses. 2 half pint glasses. Fire lighters for the Queenie burner. (Common sense but i must state - if the Queenie burner is lit, the fire MUST be kept small with no chance of briquettes falling out of the fire grate, that may cause a fire and/or damaged the carpet/caravan. Also if too many briquettes are put into the Queenie burner, it maybe too hot for you to sit in there comfortably). If you cause any damage please let me know asap so we can sort if out. Smokeless/odourless fire briquettes in the scuttle and extra in the outside rear box (turn handle to open right hand door, and then unlock left hand door at the top). Bedding for 2, double duvet, 2 pillows, 1 sheet, 1 mattress protector. LED lanterns and fairy lights for ambient illumination (no candles or paraffin lamps etc). Some small bin bags . Some large black bin bags. Washing up liquid. 1 frying pan. 1 Sauce pan. Just to be super mega clear… As mentioned in the description, we just want to be clear that it is a rustic set up that is close to nature! It is quite different in the spring from the summer. 'Field type footwear' / boots is advisable if it is wet weather! Hopefully, it is all seen as an example of ‘Permaculture’, with ‘Reduce Reuse Recycle’ the main ethos. We have a small shower in the composting toilet ‘block’ and a cold water basin too. The Gypsy Caravan has a small basin and/or the tub that can be used to wash up in but it is basic, a case of heating water with the kettle and camping gas burner etc. So essentially, it is camping in a bowtop wagon, in a field. If the weather is glorious you will have a beautiful view and not a care in the world. If it rains, there will be the usual wet weather capers and even more reason to get cosy inside the gypsy caravan, with the fire lit and forget about the world outside! You will have access to the Gypsy Caravan, Parking, the Composting toilet/shower, the large surrounding grass area of the gypsy caravan and walks around the land. I live near by and I am always on the end of the phone. I am often tending to the Allotment on the other side of the land. There is a nice stroll around the land and different aspects of the view to admire. The Royal Horticultural Society Gardens at Rosemoor, are less than 3/4 minute drive. The Meeth Quarry or 'Clay pits' are an interesting place to visit for a walk and the Tarka Trail is an excellent level trail to cycle. Bikes can be hired from The Puffin Billy. There are bus routes from Torrington. Torrington is a quaint market town that is a 3/4 minute drive. There are a wide variety of amenities in Torrington that include a Swimming Pool, The Plough Arts Centre, a Supermarket and great variety of independent shops and traders. There is also the Tarka Trail which is a level cycling/walking track that was once the local rail net work. There are many sites of interest along the parka trail, including the Meeth Quarry/Clay Pits, The Puffin Billy Station Cafe, various Bridges and beautiful views. There is a small allotment garden that we tend to regularly, at least 50m - 100m from the Gypsy Caravan and out of view. The whole set up is rustic, basic and surrounded by nature! We have a great camping area for children but unfortunately we can't offer for children to stay in the Gypsy Caravan due to the ornate decoration of the wagon. There is also a teepee available to rent with advance notice.
