Church Cottage is a delightful and unique Grade II listed, 15th Century house in the heart of historic Stratton, beside St Andrews Church and within walking distance of the local shop, pubs and art gallery. Bude itself is less than 1.5 miles away, with a wide selection of shops, popular surfing beaches, a sea pool, boating canal, golf course, cafes and restaurants. It has recently been sympathetically restored and is a great get-away for a couple, a group of friends or a family wanting to escape for a long weekend / week and enjoy the countryside and seaside, in delightful surroundings. You can just relax and chill by the fire, hide away in the secret garden listening to the Church bells sound the hour, or test your dart skills in the games room. The cottage is everything a country cottage should be, with lovely beamed ceilings downstairs (high enough to happily handle the taller 6ft+ members of the family!), with two lovely bedrooms rooms and new bathroom upstairs, giving you a selection of pleasant and unique rooms to choose from. There is lots of charm and history both inside as well as in the immediate area outside, and the cottage is mentioned in the battlefield walk and the town trail. After a long day of reading and relaxing you can just walk 30 seconds down the hill and meet the Giant in the Tree Inn over a pint! The nearest beach is just 5 minutes drive away, with lots of rock pools for children to play in, as well as sand that is ideal for sandcastles! The area has some of the best surfing in the country with 33 surfing breaks within 20 mins drive (North and South), from easy sand beaches to world class reefs. More surfing spots compared to anywhere else in the country, and able to handle all wind directions that Neptune can throw at you. There is also lots of good river fly fishing just a short drive away, several coarse fishing lakes nearby, riding, loads of coastal climbing routes within easy reach, great walking along the SW Coast path, as well as great cycling routes. On top of all this there is also indoor bowling and an indoor swimming pool just 2 minutes away. Then a quick hop, skip and jump away in Bude you have a fun sea pool on the beach, tennis, bowls, crazy golf and loads of other activities. ----------------------------------------------------- The Cottage comfortably caters to 4 people (also available to rent for x6 people / per wkd), but it should be noted that the bed in the smaller of the two upstairs bedrooms is a small double, but my wife and I happily sleep in it - but If you have a larger frame it might not be comfortable for two people. ------------------------------------------------------- Health and safety laws being what they are and young children being so inquisitive, we are not keen to have children under 10 years old staying at the cottage. For their own safety, and so no damage is done to cottage - we hope you understand. --------------------------------------------------- Being a listed property, recently restored, we ask that you submit a security deposit, to ensure that you enjoy and love the cottage as much as we do. This is normal practice for most properties you stay in around Europe and the World - thanks for your understanding. The Cottage, Garden, the Garage, Games Room, and all areas. The Cottage is fully equipped, and has all the things you would need for a great break / holiday. ---------------------------------------------- There are only three areas which you don't have access to....... - 1 out of 5 cupboards in the main bedroom (which just has cleaner stuff in). - a locked cupboard in the garage under the stairs (which has some tools) - the bedroom above the garage (this is for when the cottage is rented for x6 guests) We won't be around during your stay, but have people who can leave / pick-up keys / clean when you leave. We are available by e-mail / phone to help in anyway we can. You will find yourself in the heart of the village, please support the village shop, which is just down the road. Make sure you go and look at the inside of St Andrews Church to see the lovely inside, but also the original stocks of the village and the shot and shell from the Battle of Stamford Hill on the hill opposite. You must also go and visit the full sized Giant in the Tree Inn and have a pint with him! Launcells Church, a 12th century church, just one mile from the cottage was described by John Betjeman as one of the most unspoilt churches in Cornwall. The village of Clovelly is a great escape for any day, rain or shine. Walking round the museum and churches is really interesting. Not to mention the great pub at the bottom around the magical harbour. There are buses in to Bude, just at the bottom of the hill, 1 minute walk away. ---------------------------------------- If you are going out at night and don't want to drive a cab into town only costs less than £5 and about £7 on the way home after midnight - Bude & Stratton Ta(phone number hidden) ---------------------------------------- You can park directly outside loading the car with the boot open, and at your own risk over night), but in the morning from 8am do not park on the double yellow lines. There is loads of parking all along beside the Church, and we have never had any issues parking. If there is a big event on there is a parking area at the bottom of the hill, we have never had to use it - but it is only 100metres away. --------------------------------------------- If you have a bicycle , the garage is a great place to store it. Bicycles are a great way of getting around, and there are quite a few local cyclists who whiz around. There is a Welcome folder with loads of information in and useful tips / hints / suggested places to visit.
